What have you done to your car today?

Depending on what your BMW head unit is, you can code the car to display the BMW interface with split screen options, as it would for the 8.8" screen.

Can only be done on certain cars though. You need to have HU_ENTRYNAV (confusingly there are two versions of ENTRYNAV, with and without navigation). You may be able find out what you should have here: https://www.bimmer-tech.net/blog/item/101-basic-bmw-navigation but might be worth confirming elsewhere too.

My car is a late 2014 manufacture and came with HU_ENTRYNAV without navigation. I swapped my screen out for a 10.25" Android one and coded the BMW HU to give me split screen and full screen display and it works great :)

Do you mean so I can see the old BMW interface as well as the new android one? I felt the original interface was pretty redundant without a navigation part to it so dont really see the need to have it active, can always just press menu to go back to it if I want to use it.

Yeah. Fair enough if you don't use it, no point messing around :) Just depends how you use it I guess. Mine still spends most of its time in the BMW UI for playing music, radio etc and I really just switch it to Android for CarPlay.

Did you go aliexpress , with, the maybe more likely, post-brexit import duty scrutiny ? 6,8 core with/without dsp?
Ended up going with a Koason one from Amazon - I figured its much easier to return if I get any issues and with the uncertainty around imports going on I just stumped up what would have been the extra 150 as the spec I went with was still 350 on Aliexpress. Used this guys vid for the install and it was a piece of cake. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6BmWrHlRYa0&t=424s

Screen is 1920x720, Android 10, 64gb and 4gb RAM with a Snapdragon 6 series processor - works an absolute treat.

If you are looking to do it though, make sure you work out if your car is CIC, NBT or NBT EVO connection - the only way to know for sure is to check the connector on the back of the screen.

Mean while, radio removed :p

Cleaned and sealed the wheels. Cleaned and sealed the top. Cleaned the interior.

Tomorrow = wash and windows.

I ordered the glass that @russell664 linked. Screw it. I've done harder jobs on cars.

Just to add to this - glass is now in. Took me about two hours, a good portion of which revolved around vacuuming up what was left of the old window :(

The battery is flat now because it's 12 years old, and the door was open the entire time I was working on the car, and I'm a lazy dumbass who didn't disconnect the battery while doing the job because a) I needed to move the window mechanism around a bit using the switch and b) I couldn't be bothered disconnecting and reconnecting to do that. So it's going on a charger in the morning and hopefully will be right as rain some time in the afternoon :)

***edit***

Fired right up after charging for the morning. Definitely going to need a new battery this winter.

Remodeled my wing in a multi-storey last week, oops.

Managed to find a replacement at a local breaker, has a couple of marks but beggars can't be choosers. Looks like a bumper off job, hopefully it all goes back together well. Was looking to trade it in just before this happened but now the MOT is looming so I'm going tidy up a couple things and get new tyres then back on the new car hunt again.

Just put ~100gb worth of mp3s and other file formats on an SD card and put them into the card reader of my C43. Wasn't expecting it to read them all but it did. Very happy, especially as it's been one of those things I've been wanting to do for years even on my previous cars but never got round to doing!

Changed timing belt, water pump and auxilary belt.
Full Service
Fitting GSR induction kit
Removed stock absorbers and Springs and fitted Koni STRT and H&R lowering springs.

Next jobs - Change of seats and audio equipment.

ooooof plenty wings available luckily.

Any recommendations for an Android double din headunit? Preferably Bluetooth (even better if I can connect to the factory mic) and with steering controls.
Don't care about reversing cameras or parking sensors... because I have eyes..., or bothered about Android Auto, or boot times.
Cheaper the better, natch.

Xtrons.co.uk

or theres "pumpkin" android

not sure what else, but you can start there

i have Xtrons in my car, looks like a Ford one (but it isnt)
you can select your car and it gives you the options

Reversed with the door open?

No, tried to reverse full lock out of a space with a big square pillar alongside the car. In my defence I'd barely slept (new baby) and assumed the pillar just forward of me was the pillar next to me. At least it wasn't another car, but I do feel like a right mammary.

Keep the damaged wing as some nursery art work

It happens. I’ve done almost the same thing and for the exact same reason. Pillar did a bit of the rear left quarter and door though it wasn’t as bad to look at as yours :d Just one of those things, at least you can hopefully get it sorted relatively cheaply.

Investigated and fixed the rear glass washer jet. There's a handy service hatch in the boot where cabling/plumbing is bundled. Turns out they placed a pipe joiner there that's prone to popping off.

Easy fix though! Could have been a blocked nozzle or a dead pump or a snapped barb...

Wonder how much screenwash I squirted into my rear wing.
