What have you done to your car today?

Weird one last night, pulled by plod on way to work

Hadn't got headlights on, fair enough, car had been in for some paint (stonechips) and they had turned auto lights off, always catches me that one

Officer was perfectly friendly and polite so all good, just before I leave other officer comes from car and says I have MOT expired a year ago, odd as I bought it BMW approved used 3 months back

explain this they go off to check and come back and say it's all ok, MOT was on prev reg number

check web MOT checker and on current reg shows 11/22

so could there be a problem or is it likely they put the wrong reg in first time and just used that as an excuse?

Some exhaust inlet actuators/sensors or some such changed on my wife’s mini. The labour cost double the parts - the joy of a mini. I think they stripped a good portion of the engine.

Amazing, I just did the same with my wife’s car. Wondered why I couldn’t see anything, saw lights were off. Couldn’t even work out how to put the wipers or lights onto auto, so it all went on full :p

You soon get used to all of this auto malarkey.

got a new number plate, good bye ***LAD, hello ***GTO. it came with lad and i've no idea if the previous owners put that on or was just an unfortunate luck of the draw when the car was registered in the UK but i'll be glad to see the back of it! Little things :D

Had to run a 2 hour errand late last night.

a) it’s glorious having an empty M4 and M25. I’ve not seen that for a while.

b) first time I’ve had the car in ‘comfort mode’. I was surprised how great it still sounded with the exhaust flaps closed. Finally found the cruise control button too…after 3 months :p

Cleaned up my lights. Before and after pics are below. Cheap and not time consuming either, but does make the car look smarter

Replaced the locking wheel bolts. Key was made out of swiss cheese, was able to use what was left of it to get the rest off

I did my front brakes on the Mondeo today and the normal nuts had been mullered to the point I couldn't fit the socket on. Infuriating, they weren't even that tight. Used a socket one size up and ordering some new nuts now. Glad I wasn't at the side of the road with a flat.

Buffer pad attached to a drill and t cut.
I was very surprised too.
Previously used 3m light restoration kit, which involves sanding. Took ages, whereas t cut took no longer than 10min on each light.

Are you putting anything on the new surface? I did mine by hand 2 years ago with wet and dry paper, which took ages. Afterwards I sprayed on a special UV protection headlight spray. It was fine for 18 months, but then went hazy, so I scraped the coating off with a piece of plastic.

I might buff them with a drill pad and just put car polish on them.

This is a Dacia - so more **** taking from the Audi club at work - however all the keys on all the cars seem to be made by the same manufacturer and all seem to be naff, the old ones had that pattern like someone went mad with a dremel.

I haven't put any protection and I am aware it will become hazy over time. I thinks its because of the material its made out of, basically its not glass. However if I have to drill polish the lights in, let's say, 6 months time, I don't mind. Inexpensive and a fraction of time compared to sanding etc.

Give it a go pal, t cut scratch remover and a drill pad. Let em know how long it takes you and what you think of the results

Whilst I've polished up various headlights in the past I've been beaten by the Integra's. Despite much sanding just couldn't shift the haze from them - if I hadn't done it successfully in the past I might've blamed myself :D

Instead the solution for me was new headlights, not too bad genuine Honda items at £390 odd the pair

Really happy with how they tidied up the front end, just need to get the bumper resprayed at some point as the colour match is slightly off in photos. Was imported with an aftermarket bumper so has been swapped at some point and this bumper wasn't originally white. I also went to a square plate for a little while but then back to a stick-on one :)

While ordering parts also got new window seals / trims - small things that all add up :)

Really must start a full thread on this car as I'll be doing a fair bit to it - mostly tidying up old & worn areas.

Steering wheel is next, booked in with Royal Steering Wheels week after next :)

Now that’s a facelift but keeping the better shape lights . I prob mentioned this before replying to this car but do regret not having a DC5

Cheers guys :) Really happy with how its coming together. The money it'll owe me when I'm happy with it could've arguably got me a slightly cleaner one to start with but nothing to say that wouldn't have needed work too :)

Ironically I was very close to buying a facelift car but wasn't as keen on the front & rear lights (and rear bumper) and then I think it sold as the chap stopped replying and it disappeared. Do slightly regret missing out on it though as it was a very late car so ULEZ exempt and was on ~41k miles from memory. Much more money than this one though and it's nice restoring a slightly unloved car back to its former glory :)

Hi guys,

What's the easiest way to see if I need a timing belt? Garage has said the 1.2 Ibixa FR is due but on googling it says chain?

It's a 1.2 FR, 2017 reg. Thanks!

You'd need to find the actual engine code (might be on a plate somewhere) and look that up. According to this only the 105PS has a chain. Also some example engine codes mentioned. I also saw somewhere the belt is for the life of the car...

Might be worth checking the service schedule in the manual.
