Way before I bought them they had been powder coated. Recovery guy on track said it looked like there were signs of corrosion inside the spokes.

I wonder if it had a very heavy hit from a curb before being refurbed. The only time I've ever seen a wheel do that was when the car slid sideways into a relatively high curb.

Corrosion on a Mazda? Surely not :p

Glad that it wasn't worse.

Yeah it's only going to cost; new set of wheels (those ones have been binned), a new tyre (that was brand new for that event), brake disc, front lower suspension arm, knuckle, wing repair and sill repair. Just those minor things :D But as it was Anglesey I had a nice bit of run off so avoided contact with anything!

Retrofitted front parking sensors to my car earlier on. Didn't need them as such, but my previous car had them so I felt this one should have too. I poached the sensors out of my old car so all I had to do was sand and paint them, buy a wiring harness and sensor mounts from BMW then make another part of the wiring harness myself. Total cost was minimal.

Last time I retrofitted parking sensors I used a step drill bit which didn't do a bad job but up close you could clearly tell the hole wasn't perfect. This time I used a step bit to drill an 8mm hole then used a Skoda hole punch tool. It came out pretty good:

After a bit of messing around and coding the car to tell it that front sensors now exist, success:

Or at least part success. There was a random gust of wind which blew my bumper over and despite there being a large rug under the front of the car, there was also a drop a bit further ahead and it fell down there. There's a few random scuffs and scrapes which is irritating so I'll have to get those sorted, but at least my DIY paint job on the sensors doesn't look too bad:

The worst of the scrapes/scuffs are just to the upper right of the kidney grille. Have to figure out whether this'll need a full bumper respray or if it's cost effective to let a smart repairer deal with it.

I fitted a new wing mirror as someone tried to play chicken with me a while back.
Also topped up the oil and put some air in the tyres as it was over a month since the last time I drove the car anywhere.

Wasted my life with Volvo Watford trying to buy an XC90, long story short: Entered negations, got values etc, agreed in principal a two week collection for the car.

Turns out the dealer had no intentions of waiting two weeks, so instead of telling me this fact ASAP, they went on a two day ignore spree, which they admitted when I finally got through to them.

Now I fully understand them selling the car to an "easier customer", however this ignore and not correctly managing customer expectations mentality has really cheesed me off.

Ended up missing out on other 2nd choice cars so the hunt continues.

To add the cherry on top, the official online dealer response to the matter is "I'd call you but I recall the mobile number supplied in the early stages of all the e-mails and correspondence that you initially had with xx not being correct which left us unable to contact you"

Which is total and utter dealer trying to save face BS.

Least I know which dealer to avoid I suppose!

Had the intercooler changed... only fixed half the issues I was having though but the dealer says they can't find any other problem :( but still getting the whine peaking at ~2K RPM.

Man after all that hard work you're taking those scratches well hopefully mostly buff out? Nice work on the retro fit though man... very nice work!!!

Had a new sump fitted after the original one had rusted through…

I knew about it, I had painted the old one a few years back when it was 2.5 years old as I clocked it being in bad condition, all the paint on the front flaked off and the corners were pitted with rust. I cleaned it up as best possible with a wire brush on a drill and did it with red oxide primer and engine enamel in a January on the drive…

I noticed it looking wet (over 5 years old now) a few weeks back when I checked the car before a longer trip and booked in for replacement. Started a few drips of oil on the drive in the interim but nothing serious. Garage did a nice job, common enough FIAT problem, split and drop the exhaust, undo all the bolts remove sump clean up and repeat process, £250 later all done, a crap job to DIY so didn’t even contemplate it.

Painted it with the engine enamel today to better protect it from day 1 and shouldn’t be an issue again fingers crossed.

Fitted new front discs and pads to my Mondeo MK4. Not too bad a job, dirty and some bolts were a bit tight to get off. Needed doing though badly, advisory on MOT but one side the pads were down to the metal.

Hardest part of the job was jacking up the car. I just hate that part.

I've had this experience with pretty much every car dealer/garage bar one. They'll fall over themselves to get their money but once you've paid and/or in your case it seems they've decided to go with another customer?!? it is radio silence.

Took it on a drive. Having been stuck in traffic for hours I hope I then didn’t get a speeding ticket on the only open stretch. I don’t think I was much over, but it’s probably marginal. I spotted the speed camera too, so I’m hoping subconsciously I knew I wasn’t over.

I was looking over the invoices for my (new to me) car the other day and I was working out what was what with the recent service history. I have an invoice for a service consisting of oil, oil filter and pollen filter completed in March this year, but after Googling the part number for the oil, seemed to point to it being an LL01 spec rather than LL04. Chances are it was been fine but I'd rather have decent oil of the right spec in there so I bought some Castrol Edge oil, Bosch oil filter, air filter, pollen filter and fuel filter and did it all today.

I was surprised/annoyed to find that the oil filter in the car was a Mahle one which is not what the 2022 service invoice states, but rather what the 2020 one states. I then took out the pollen filter and was also surprised/annoyed to see it was a BMW branded part dated 2017. On top of that, the pollen filter was fitted the wrong way too. That leads me to believe that this garage charged the previous owner for a pollen filter in 2020 and 2022 without even touching it and they charged for oil and oil filter in 2022 and at the very least didn't touch the oil filter. On the upside, I know that the air filter and fuel filter were changed in 2020.

On top of that the oil filter housing was insanely tight. I had to use my socket wrench with two extension bars to be able to get it to shift and given that it's a plastic housing I was very concerned about breaking it. It clearly states 25Nm on the housing but it was far tighter than that. Absolute morons.

At least now I know that it's all sorted with decent oil of the correct spec and all the filters are sorted. I would've done all of this anyway since I like to know what's what when I get a car but it annoys me that this garage ripped off the previous owner.

Certainly doesn't look like a filter that's been in the car for 4 months and 3k miles :) Not the best pic as it's a carbon activated one so would be a bit black anyway, but there's tons of grit, bits of leaves etc in there.
