What have you done to your car today?

It’s a 320d. I’m pretty sure it didn’t even have the oil change in March so it was still on the oil from the 2020 change. It came out looking fine to be fair. Or at least as fine as oil from a diesel engine can appear to be.

I was surprised/annoyed to find that the oil filter in the car was a Mahle one which is not what the 2022 service invoice states, but rather what the 2020 one states. I then took out the pollen filter and was also surprised/annoyed to see it was a BMW branded part dated 2017. On top of that, the pollen filter was fitted the wrong way too. That leads me to believe that this garage charged the previous owner for a pollen filter in 2020 and 2022 without even touching it and they charged for oil and oil filter in 2022 and at the very least didn't touch the oil filter. On the upside, I know that the air filter and fuel filter were changed in 2020.

I see this quite a bit personally suspect it is a scam really - where the entry for replacing the cabin filter and charged at replacement cost is marked down as "inspected" but still costed at the same as replacement.

Installed the block mod on my Focus ST

Car in for a service yesterday and noticed afterwards they'd unplugged the connector into the webcam. I mean, it's not hardwired so it wouldn't have recorded anything anyway but is that a standard practice?
I'm not really bothered but did wonder why...

Fairly standard yep. I don't want my work/workplace being recorded. Got a laptop on my toolbox that may have private information on the screen.

I always plug it back in though.

That's fine. I didn't think to tell them about it as it's not hardwired. If they'd bothered to plug it back in I'd never have known.

Block mod?

Small metal shims between the cylinder liners, which can help prevent the liners from cracking, this can happen on standard and tuned engines.
The small slit between the cylinders carries coolant, but the coolant can overheat, boil, and then crack the liner, so the block mod used a small metal shim to reinforce the gap between the cylinders to help strengthen them.
The volvo guys have been doing it for years before Ford used the volvo engine in the focus, it was only time before this "mod" was copied by the ford guys.

After 18 months off the road waiting for a useless unorganised bodyshop to sort out 2 chassis legs, a new windscreen and some paint... my MX5 was finally in for an MOT today.

I'd completely lost my enthusiasm for this car and was fully prepared to sell it once I got it back from the bodyshop (whether it was complete or not), but after taking a detour on the way home after its MOT and having a decent drive I am really glad to have it back.

Sold it ;(

After almost 9 years of ownership, must admit I was a bit sad to watch its new owner drive it away. However I got the impression that he also intended to keep and and cherish it for a while. Hope it treats him as well as it did me.

I remember when you got it, now I feel old! What's next then?

I have a GR86 on order. Its currently in build, and hopefully arriving in October (fingers crossed). But used car prices are falling and I don't need a car right now, so made a move to sell it.

Put it on AT Saturday morning, had a message about it Saturday evening, he came today and took it for a price we were both happy with. Pleased with that...I was dreading the usual pitfalls of selling privately.

I've had this experience with pretty much every car dealer/garage bar one. They'll fall over themselves to get their money but once you've paid and/or in your case it seems they've decided to go with another customer?!? it is radio silence.

They might not sell me this car, but why not keep me happy so they can sell me another, simply bonkers.

Anyway I was forced to venture from Cheshire across into Stoke On Trent  at the weekend, Volvo main dealer was excellent and are actively hunting a car with the exact spec we want.

Fingers crossed we get something in August.

Tein coilover ready to go back on now minus the oil rust protection layer :D 18months old at the time so out of warranty but Tein kindly sorted it with some persuasion, i dont like to quote the sales of goods act but having it fail with less than 3k miles was a bit of a bug bear. but credit due, they sorted it and turned it round really quick, bonus points for there uk warehouse being on my doorstep.
