What have you done to your car today?

This has been a long time coming. Very excited to see the difference!

Hmm bit of an odd one - had my truck into the dealer today to look at a whining noise, hadn't been using it for awhile so didn't sort it earlier, and they are 99% sure someone has maliciously/intentionally loosened up pipes to the turbo and a couple of other places - but I don't believe anyone could have got access to them from underneath and there aren't many chances for it to have happened when someone had access to the vehicle. (They were a bit concerned because their technician was the last person according to their records to do maintenance on the vehicle but it was happening from before that).

Cleared some deposits which we feeding back under braking. Lower control arms replaced as they were shot which helped but hadn't resolved the issue completely.

Swapped a driveshaft with a split inner boot (which I only just noticed last week) with a new one on my Mk6 Fiesta 1.6 TDCI.

It's got its MOT on Thursday and I only got the driveshaft today which happened to coincide with my day off from work so lucked out there.

Draining the oil from the gearbox when I removed the old shaft, I don't think it's ever had an oil change judging by the colour (even though it's not part of the service interval) the new oil was a nice golden colour.

Low tone horn died recently and was unaware until using it do warn two pedestrians of their imminent almost-death. The high-tone alone is laughable, literally honks like a clown car with out the low-tone.

They operate as a pair with one on each side behind the arch liner so a fairly quick job. Found an 8 series horn new for £12 which is a £50 saving over the F80 horn despite basically being identical, just daft dealer part margins I guess?

20 minute job including hunting for lost arch liner screws :p

Nearly ready for MOT just waiting for brackets for the bumper from the US.

New fuel tank
New lines
New alternator
Cam belt tensioner etc
Service oils filters
New bias valve on rear end
New fuel filler pipes
New wheels and tyres
Bit of welding
Made two good doors and windows out of 6
All the locks on one key rather than 12

Needs seat belts, front bumper, valance, then MOT time. should have waited another few years then it wouldn’t need one

Had a weird issue where the AC would work fine in town, but once I went above about 75MPH it stopped blowing cool air. Someone mentioned that it could be the radiator fan, so I thought for the sake of a £80 part it was worth a go. One of the easiest jobs I've done - took about 25 minutes from start to finish and has totally fixed the problem.

Replaced number 3 injector copper seal on my Fiesta 1.6 TDCI because it passing a little exhaust gas. Best tip I got from the internet was to remove the injector when the engine was hot, it softens any of the tar that may be sticking to injector making it easier to twist and extract. Also Cellulose thinners make the sticky tar deposits on the injector casing dissolve.

I also took the opportunity to give the air intake manifold (not pictured) a good clean out with Mr Muscle oven cleaner too followed by a thorough jet wash, and as I've deleted the EGR long ago so it should stay clean now. :)

For 108k miles she's doing pretty well, pretty much clean bill of health on the last MOT, photo taken a month or so ago.

Ah man that brings back memories. I did that job on my 1.4 TDCi and managed to balls up the thread on one of the injector bolts. I ended up "forcing" in what was basically a leftover IKEA screw from some other project, till I could get the right helicoil kit to sort it out.

Worked a treat in the end before I scrapped the engine and bought a 1.6 TDCi to do a facelift retrofit and engine swap.

I helped a friend do that to his girlfriend's TDCi several years ago. Absolute ball-ache of a job.
I didn't find it that bad actually, but then I spent an age researching it and watching various how-to videos on YouTube. I did it in a couple hours.

I also had a decent Draper reaming tool set and copper seal puller which extracted it first go.

It still amazes me though that the relatively small clamping force around the injector and the copper washer is enough to resist the massive pressure inside the cylinder. I know the surface area of the injector protruding into the cylinder isn't massive but I would have have expected the clamping bolts to be more robust, apparently they snap easily like dlockers found.

Ordered 2 new tyres for the Kuga.

Also garage called me regarding the Fiesta to confirm the clutch needs replacement as is definitely slipping. Got them to MOT it first (as was due in November anyway) before going ahead with the clutch, and it also needs a new exhaust back box and mid section

Expensive month :(

Have you had any issues with weeping shocks? That came up on my mum's service a year ago.

I thought I'd sorted out my squealing handbrake a while ago but apparently I hadn't. It still squealed quite a bit but annoyingly never when first setting off on a journey which makes it even more annoying to troubleshoot. When I last had it all apart I changed the rear discs, handbrake shoes and the springs for the shoes and the only things I left were the star adjuster screws and the expanders that the handbrake cable and lower part of the handbrake shoes sit in so I thought I might as well try replacing those before giving up.

I don't want to get my hopes up too much, but I'm pretty sure it's sorted now. One of the expanders is caked in more dirt than the other and also, there is a spring contact in each one. On one of the expanders, the spring offers resistance when I push it in as expected but on the problematic side, the spring offers no resistance at all and I can push the top part in and it just stays there. Pretty confident that's the issue and I've had no issues yet, but time will tell. I hate BMW mechanical handbrakes, next car will undoubtedly have an electric one.
