What have you done to your car today?

Did you get this sorted?

You got Brembo brakes?

Yup, Brembo, still nothing from Vaux.

Taking the car into a local independant garage tomorrow for waterpump/cambelt/tensioner and going to see if they can source one.

It's a shame as I was hoping to get the whole kit with the false floor to make it all tidy, but looks like I will have to get it all secondhand.

I think (can't be sure) that you'll need at least a 17" rim for that. Not too familiar with your exact model - does it have a hole for the tyre to fit into - if not, you might find it's too wide for the false floor to sit flush as well but that's speculation on my part as I've not got the false floor in mine and I've got the D with the single exhaust in the middle.

Had the new stainless steel exhaust fitted along with matching rear diffuser on my 430D

I know it won't be everyone's cup of tea, but I like it :D

Next on the agenda is an AC Snitzer suspension upgrade. Hoping to have it fitted in April/May

Not sure why you'd go anywhere other than a breakers for all of that. But I kinda doubt they do a steal to go over brembos tbh?

Today and yesterday I've been taking a look at my brakes. It's a bit weird because the car is stopping absolutely fine and I can't feel any brake-related troubles, but my rear brakes look like this:

This all started over the Xmas period when I wasn't using my car. Discs looked absolutely fine up until I took some time off work and then I just didn't drive my car for a while. Over a period of about 4 weeks the most I did was a single 30 mile trip. When I had to do a drive to Ireland in mid January I checked over the car and saw the brakes were like that. Obviously a little bit of surface corrosion is no big deal and it cleans itself up, but the rust on the outer edge of the discs will not clear up no matter what, even if I do some heavy braking. Those pics are after having driven the car nearly 2k miles since I first saw the problem.

Perhaps more concerning is that I only put those discs and pads on the car back in August so they're far from worn. I did clean the car a few days in to my time off and then left it so that's probably what caused it, or at least significantly contributed to it, along with me living near the cost. So yesterday I took the rear calipers off, cleaned everything up, lightly sanded the brake carriers and the pads down and put it all back together.

You can clearly see on the pad where the areas contacting the rusted patches of disc are. Today I did the same to the front brakes as I noticed one of the front discs also has some rust buildup that won't clear. Hopefully now I've done that, a bit of harsh braking might just clear it up. Just need to go out for a drive when it's quiet to try it out. It is strange though, I can't figure out why it wouldn't just clear up on its own. I guess the rust was just that severe and it compromised the pad material somehow.

Going back to this one, I've not used my car all that much since but I took it out late last night and did a fair bit of harsh braking from speed on a quiet road to try to clear the discs up a bit. It seems to look a bit better, but the outer rings are still there - definitely is starting to clear it up though so hopefully it'll just clear up in time or I'll have to do the discs and pads again. Not the end of the world if I do, but annoying since the rear discs/pads are only 7 months old.

I've got my MOT tomorrow. Any thoughts on whether or not it'll pass like this? Braking performance seems fine and there's no noticeable issue with it at all and based on the MOT test manual I can't see anything that it would specifically fail on.

Completely normal and will pass the MOT fine assuming brakes are otherwise working normally. It has to be a LOT worse than this before it would even get an advisory, let alone fail.

Drove Immi to the MOT garage. Failed 60mins later. Came back home.

Ordered new rear shocks from Gaz, now need to wait 6 weeks for them to be built :(

Absolutely nothing visually wrong with them, don't worry.
I carry out a couple of thousand MOT tests a year and I can't remember the last time I failed a brake disc on appearance.
As long as the efficiency is up to scratch and they're not warped, then you're good to go.
As Fuzz said, they'd have to be much much worse than that to fail.

Changed the rear springs on 330ci as I noticed one had snapped :o to then realise that one of the ARB droplinks has also snapped in half

Thanks guys, appreciate the input :) As expected it passed the MOT and flew through with no advisories too so that's good.

Especially good because I've had an issue with the handbrake for ages on this car, even since I got it back in June where it stuck on and squealed when releasing. BMW's shoe inside the disc mechanism for manual handbrakes is annoying. I've had it all apart a few times to replace the discs/pads, shoes and springs (twice) and the expanders. I believed I'd finally sorted it all out in October but this is the first time anyone else has checked it out so it's good to have verification that it's all alright.

The garage that I have my landrover at want ME to go over and work on it.
Not until you shut the doors and put the heating on matey so that's a no from me in this weather. I'd have done it at home if I wanted to do that, that was the whole point of giving it to you, an actual garage to do. FFS.

Made a bracket for my phone mount in the car. Took a few prototypes and adjustments to get right but looks great now!

I was quite surprised at how much better the print came out compared to my cheap prototype ones!

Using a Pitaka MagSafe iPhone mount as I had to try and match the dashboard carbon :D

Fixing rear suspension & brakes ready for MOT found the rear tyres were badly worn. Typical me fashion saw this as a chance to upgrade to the 18" MSport wheels instead of just buying 2 tyres...

Wheels need a refurb really but 0 cracks which is rare on MV3's and good Bridgestones all around :)

Started replacing the ageing flexible brake lines on my MX5 today after the sleet stopped. Braided lines were cheaper than standard rubber ones, so bought braided.

Got the fronts changed over today and also cleaned the calipers and pads and greased the slide pins.

I'll do the rears tomorrow, weather permitting.

Got my wheel and calipers refurbed. Previous owner parked by sound and feel…
They look brand new now, very pleased.

Of course they’re filthy now due to the weather :@
