What have you done to your car today?

So things got much worse...

How on earth this wasn't even an advisory last year I don't know. Same story with my MG really. Went from no advisory to fail.

Sorry to see this, it still isn't a huge amount of welding in the grand scheme of things, but I'm not sure why you're putting all this effort into an MGF/TF.

Does the car have some kind of sentimental value? Or is it sunk cost fallacy? I'd just get rid of it and buy something else unless you really love it and plan on keeping it a long time. :p

If you do it at all I'd just get a "bloke with welder" type guy to do it on your driveway, it will probably only cost you a couple hundred for all of it... Just make sure they are actually competent first, get them to show you some pictures of past repairs or something. Make sure they actually cut out and treat the rust first. That is the kind of welding I paid a friend of a friend to do on my E30 when I first got it, he did an absolute tonne of work, and 90% of it is still rock solid 6 years later.

We aren't talking about DIY, he clearly stated that he's looking for a place to do it for him. I don't think any shop down south will do it properly for £200, maybe up north... I'm happy to be proven wrong tho.

Duck tape on its own wouldn't hold, you would use something (expansion foam used in construction) in combination with it, lick of any paint you've lying around to finish it off

It's a temp fix if you're in a pinch...

My point (which seems to be cruising at 60K feet over your head) is you saying that we (testers) can't fail corrosion if we can't see it is incorrect.
Then you go and recommend expanding foam!!!
I get so many customers saying that I can't fail this and that because either their mate down the pub said so, or they've read some nonsense on a forum.

The TF was sorted to a great standard at even greater expense, £950 :(

This is on my daily, Rolf Yaris. He's dead though:

It's been good to me and I wasn't really ready to let it go. To the point I'm looking at 19 year old replacements. At least alloy wheels and AC is an upgrade! But 2 grand now when I paid 2 grand in 2022 is a bit naff.

Replaced the plugs in the DS3. They recommend 20-30,000km and mine had done 24k. I've got no idea if they look OK or not but for £50 it was worth keeping on top of.

cabin filter - won't need to dust the air-vents now.

---

after yesterdays wash and brush up -
was wondering about the best way to clean detailing cloths, washing machine will only do high temp 90C option in a program that lasts several hours,
and although I usually put them on with boiler-suit too, seems a waste of energy & only a small load.
Usually like to clean them within days before all the product have dried out too.
washing machines need a special program.

Why are you washing at 90? 40 or 60 should be fine?

Melts the polyester much like the plastic keyboard he uses.
Terry's ? old school - microfibre seems to absorb a lot of product, also, principally to apply SRP where terry has more bite.
used 4 cloths SRP on/off , polish on/off

even at 60C question of a short washer program is still relevant - but maybe other regular clothing could be washed with them w/o pick up the smell of polish/cutting compounds.
(e: V ariel automatic in the machine of course, usually no conditioner)

Terry are equally good on glass - where you need elbow-grease.

You need detergents to clean off the products. 100C plain water isn’t going to be as good as 40C with detergent and white vinegar’conditioner’

Had an update on the stolen car today, despite the insurance company initially telling me the car was recovered with "minimal" damage and asking if wanted to pause the claim as the costs would be negligible, they sent me an email yesterday saying the car has now been written off!

Slightly confused following their initial evaluation I spoke to the garage and it turns out the thief spent some time looking for a tracker, and as a result tore out half the internal wiring loom. Result, repair costs would be over £12.5k, so written off.

One more thing to add to the litany of issues we'll be raising a formal complaint with the insurance company about. One a positive the first offer for the car is £23.5k, which is actually pretty decent.
