Well... First day off since buying a used car. Decided to check the fluids, pump tyres, etc etc.
Entertainingly, I bought an identical car to my last so I can steal the odd part if it needs refreshing...
Wipers were all rotted to hell. Swapped. 4 entirely different brand tyres, dates between 2021 and 2024. Will swap for the <1k mile all weathers on old car.
Engine and gearbox oil both over full. Hmm. Coolant almost empty and screen wash nonexistent. Cool.
Bonnet catch wont engage closed. Ok? Clean and lubricate. Adjust bonnet stops. Bonnet closes but is resting on bumper. Notice paint is a bit too clean but also has imperfections. Yep, definitely been resprayed over the entire front end.
So it turns out one front wheel arch liner is missing, another is unattached and has rubbed on the wheel before. A fog light mount has also been bodged out of a blanking plate. So clearly some crash damage been repaired, and probably quite recently.
The car is otherwise low mileage and quite rust free for 20 years old so I'm tempted just to swap the missing bits on from my old one. Concerned about the general alignment though, trim pieces might not bolt right back on...

Finalised the brakes ready for bleeding.
Next up, diff out and swap for a shiny one with go faster bits and CV boots on the shafts, then the prop can go in.

It’s going for a respray so it doesn’t matter
But it’s body shop tape stuff that I left on it for about 2 years and half of the sticky stuff didn’t leave and it’s been used as a painting table many times.Those tyres look rather old. Are they SC2s?!So this occurred on my colleagues 996 the other day...

The lump still inflated after taking the tyre off.
And the fitter decided to poke it with a blade afterwards and scared the **** out of his colleague. Massive bang apparently.

Replaced a clip which I’d previously broken. Definitely because it was a dodgy clip and not at all due to my gorilla approach to putting things back together.

Trying to buy a rusty old Mercedes off some boomer in Wales and trying to extract responses from him is like pulling teeth.
And as for getting him to answer questions... Well, I haven't seen it done, it may be impossible.
So I've basically said "look, with the information I have (none) here is what I'm willing to offer"
I have no doubt he won't bother to reply to that either. I would phone him, but phoning people is insane behaviour in 2024, and he's Welsh so I wouldn't understand a word he says anyway.
