What have you done to your car today?

Disco went flat, I didn’t realise, I rarely drive it now, I tried to start it. Jumped it and had ever light under the sun.

This wasn’t even half of them, we had 5 pages of fault codes, yay go Land Rover!

99 percent of which caused by low/flat battery. get it everytime i let my storage cars go low on battery power. clear faults ,run it for at least 30mins or do a journey and then rescan, most if not all will have gone.

Cracked on with the Mini.

Cleaned up the block "face". Only used green scourer pad. Didn't want to use anything else and felt fairly smooth after.

This was a complete swine to get off

Tried various pullers. Couldn't get them behind the teeth. Tried cutting the puller "feet" down with mixed results.

I think this is the new one fitted. That also, wasn't much fun to get on the crankshaft. In the oven for an hour at 180 degrees and a bit more heat to get it in position.

Got to the stage of getting aux belt fitted only to find one of the oil seals for the pump had fallen out when I fitted the timing chain cover. That lost me almost a day to take it all back off again and refit.
Lining up the chain wasn't that hard. Getting the exhaust manifold bolted up was a pain. New re-con head fitted.

Fired up first time, no problem. Bit of a panic when reversed out the garage to find power steering not working, no radio, no dials etc. I'd forgotten to refit the alternator connector - phew! Thought it was something more serious.
Been running it about yesterday and today and seems happy enough. Bit of smoke initially but that's gone now.

Replacing an exhaust manifold and one of the studs was snapped. No problem I thought I will just drill down the middle and use an easy out to unwind what is left over. I have done plenty of these before but today the easy out snapped in the middle of the stud. It was unwinding too. :(

Now I have placed an order for a load of core drill bits to get it out!

Got under the Austin and checked the u-joints in the prop for play, and checked for any serious concerns. It all looks pretty great under there honestly!

The leaf springs are definitely tired (you can tell because of how flat they are), but everything else looks good.

Gave it a bit of a rattle can rebuild under there with some direct-to-rust.

Also shot some of that black paint on the grille which was getting a bit rusty looking, and installed the securing strap on the bonnet. In my opinion pretty essential especially on the roads we have around here, the bonnet catch is a glorified door catch and they have been known to fly up. Also #racecar obvs. :p

Drove it in the dark for the first time today, definitely going to order a headlight upgrade, they are like candles in glass jars and the beams are all over the place. (No I didn't have the tape on the lights! Although from experience that makes surprisingly little difference anyway) Somehow the dipped beam on one side is too low and yet the high beam is too high, but it is a sealed beam, all together. :p

Sometimes it is just better to get some sleep and come back with a fresh set of eyes.

The snapped stud that had a snapped extractor in it got some weld and eventually a nut and managed to get it out no drama! Tested first on my snapped stud to see if the weld would hold which it did. Massive sigh of relief after that one.

First motorway trip tomorrow, since buying this car a month ago. Went to fill up the washer fluid. Pour a litre in and hear a peeing noise. Look under car, yep it's just dribbling out the bottom. That explains why the bottle was empty when the car arrived.

Another casualty of the front end damage that was *****ily repaired that I discovered after a week.

Replaced the standard Lucas sealed beam lights with some Wipac halogen lights, the difference is night and day.

Fitted the chrome 'horseshoe' trim, whoever invented the clips that hold the thing on clearly wanted to lash out at the world.

And test fitted a Notek Nearlite spotlight that I was given.

Also fitted a new anti rattle plunger and spring in the shifter turret, which has, as the name implies, stopped the gearstick from rattling like a *******. :p

The compartment where my roof folds into has 2 drainage channels, they are now clogged up and I noticed my boot was soggy right through the floor panel and everything in the boot had absorbed rain water given the downpours we have had last few weeks.

So spent a few hours wringing much of the water out but still a bit to go, will have to buy drain unblocker to do it as BMW don't give you easy access to the channel to clean them out properly, chemical is the only easy way it seems.

I've had to replace some stuff in the boot that I had like the storage bag with tools as it was soggy and smelly, the boot liner tray is out in the house drying as it's also in a state... So annoying.

Ouch, didn't expect you'd have these sorts of issues with yours. Welcome to soft top life. My MG had so many leaks when I got it, from the window seals to the boot to the cabin air intake.

I've done silicone sealant on the intake but everything else needed fettling and checking and adjusting and... Waiting for a proper storm. My carpets have been out for 6 months at this point. I'm juuuust about confident to put them back in now.

Nope as effective access is blocked by metal plates the roof is mounted via - BMW's excellent design choices strike again.

It's something I never needed to think about before so I guess the blockage finally took its toll. From now on every couple of months will run a jug of water down each channel; to make sure it is draining properly and if not, whip out the unblocker again lol.

Given me an excuse to order a nice thick piled boot liner carpet though to make me happy again, so there is that.

Worked out whether the screen washer pump works (it does, good) and ordered the appropriate tubing and joiners to replace the shredded tube. We're still away from home so I'll sort it tomorrow when we're back.

Went out for an early morning nice weather for ducks driveout  decided to cut it short & turn around when the volume of rain started to flood the road in places  on the way back coming down the M40 went by at least 4-5 wrecked cars in different parts of the M40.

1 x BMW 3 series stuck in lane 2 of 4 after hitting the crash barrier & spinning back across the road. Airbag deployed & front right totally destroyed. No one around so driver must have been ok.
1 x BMW 1 series front right destroyed stuck at side of the road with police presence questioning the occupants behind the crash barrier.
1 x Audi SUV had hit the side of the crash barrier span across the M40 leaving pieces of bodywork everywhere.

2 more could not see cars stranded side of the road further up. All of this was within a 4-5 miles section...none were near each other either so not connected.... complete insanity & chaos just because they did not slow down & drive to the conditions

Did an early oil and filter change 1.6 tdi at 6000 miles was having some dpf issues that i have resolved .was taking almost an hour to regen ,its now 14 mins but i was concerned the extended post injections may have started to dilute the oil , anyway main dealer filter and Castrul edge ll
as regards dpf i monitor my regens and the egts are getting to 650c plus , getting 350 miles in-between ,i know exactly when they are due ,still a pain as they are set of by calculated not measured soot , my differential pressure reads like a new dpf, looking at ways to hack the algorithm
