What have you done to your car today?

Not really, you were driving beyond your or your cars ability.

Yes, which was a mistake which is learnt from. Most people have been there. Hopefully only once.

He {who I probably can't call what I think of} is trying to defend his actions, which appear to be a conscious decision, and is determined he did nothing wrong and sounds like he'd happily do it again. Which is a little worrying tbh.

We should just move on though as we're getting no-where and gaining nothing.

Misjudging speed/corners is a big mistake for sure, but driving with almost completely bald tires and claiming you're doing nothing wrong is just willful ignorance.

I'm pretty aware he knows he needs new tyres as he's ordered some. If I was driving back from Europe I'd rather wait till I'm home to get them changed too.

Was going to say, given my experience a couple of pages back of having tyres fitted in Europe, I'm not sure I blame him :p

I'd rather not set off for a 3000 mile tour of Europe with tyres which are sufficiently low to mean by the time I arrive back they've been illegal for some time.

Why do you presume his tyres were low on tread when he left? It's a RWD car, he could've been drifting round every corner for all we know.

It's quite simple - if you set out on a journey and during that journey, however long, your tyres become illegal, you had insufficient tread on them to commence it and have little real choice but to purchase new ones, however inconvenient it might be

You can't just go LOLLLLLL and continue your trip with bald tyres as bad as that!

The recommended change level is 3mm, but they are not illegal until 1.6mm. Those tyres have 0mm. It was obvious long before they were slicks that they were in need of being changed.

You can and he did.

I'm still not sure why you thought the tread was low before he left for his trip?

I'll come back later... It seems there is more than one iteration of Rainagul. :p

This thread is making them come out of the woodwork at the moment. Next up, people with no insurance! (Which IMO actually isn't anywhere near as bad because it isn't dangerous)

I didn't say the tread was low, I said:

I can't see how you can dispute this. If they were NOT sufficiently low to mean that, then they wouldn't have worn out whilst on a road trip!

Because if you had a decent amount of tread left then 3000 miles shouldn't be that big a deal. For it to end up like that then it clearly wasn't sufficient and wouldn't be sensible to commence a 3000 mile journey. It's really that simple. Driving 3000 miles on public roads should not be enough to take tyres that look decent down to slicks unless they were a bit crap in the first place.

However it's done and he knows his tyres are knackered and has new ones on order. It isn't worth getting points for so I'd hope he isn't still driving it but if he is there's not really anything that anyone can do so best to let it go :)

To be fair, I don't think the 3000 miles played much of a factor in the wear. The two track days really took it out of them though.

In hindsight, budgeting for an extra set of tyres is definitely something I will be looking into next time when journeying abroad. I'm just happy that the weather conditions was favorable and we didn't have any punctures.

On the way home he might've drifted through every intersection and round every corner which would mean they'd be fine when he left but worn out by the time he was back.

Unlikely, but it would also still back up our opinion that he's an idiot...

You clearly lack common sense too, please be aware I will no longer respond to you either **ignore**

Got the rear diff bushes changed today.
Not only has it improved the handling, but it's also fixed the grinding i was getting on down shifts.
Best £258 I've spent this year :)

They are from Ford in that case ;)

And they've all arrived surface scratched to hell.

From a distance you probably won't tell... So I've told them they can have them back (collection at their own cost) or refund me half the money.

As for the 1 Series.. because I like them. You lot must think I have had a history of smooth refined motors or something :D I have these hot hatches but I'm not sitting @ 6k+ RPM all day?!
