What have you done to your car today?

Picking up the car from the paint shop later with a freshly painted spoiler and sills.

Next on the list are the wheels and badges, 2 wheels need a refurb and the badges/center caps could do with replacing. Toying with a few ideas, wouldnt mind polling for opinions

The car

I can put the new style Skoda center caps and badges on, which are black and look like this

Do that or keep them standard?

Second, the wheels - Do i keep the colour standard or refurb all 4 in a different colour? Dont want black wheels, standard is quite a bright silver. Tempted to try a gunmetal type colour, which would look like...

Do that, or keep them standard too?

Standard silver.

How much did the paint work cost out of interest?

I was erring that way myself, I like the contrast between black and silver. I think the new badges would look good though.

Paintwork is coming to £220 and they're touching in some little stone chips too

Not bad!

On the subject of wheel refurbing, I'm probably going to have mine done at some point. I keep reading of people having theirs powdercoated rather than "regular" painting - what's the main difference between the two methods? Durability vs finish? Is one more expensive than the other? I think I care about durability more, presuming that it isn't at the expense of a nice shiny bright silver finish.

More lights have stopped working. I need to repair one of the looms, rebuild the alternator and replace the battery...

Hahahahahahhaha..ha...... Wahhhhhhh :(

Similar in effect but different in method. Powdercoating is solventless and cures using heat.

I think it is usually cheaper than a conventional spray job although I remember a bit of noise a while ago that the heating used in the curing process was potentially causing wheel failures in some cases.

This may have been specific to a manufacturer (Rota rings a bell) and I don't know if a confusion was reached - i'll have a root around.

Thanks Dave :)

Just walk, you'll get to places quicker.

Haha yeah... But I need to get the car prepped for an MOT, even if that means bodging it so that everything works, so that I can take the time to fix it properly afterwards.

I would like to sell it privately as a working car for like £1000, rather than trade it in as a pile of crap for £200, or scrap it. :p

It's too good to do that with. Too many new bits on it.

It has just come over all French with the electronics recently...
