What have you done to your car today?

Tbh its worth treating the fuel cam as a serviceable item, it's not a huge deal to replace or an expensive part. If you're remapping, just replace it

Enquiring about a 2004 Mazda3 2.0 Sport with 80K on the clock, to see what they'll give me as trade in against it, for the old Slowlo... Asking price for the Mazda is £1500, and it would serve as a stop-gap motor for a couple of years.

Anything I should watch out for with these? Any reason why they are so cheap in comparison to things like a Focus?

No such thing as a stop gap motor when you still have to pay to fix it.

You won't enjoy it when you could stop skinting out and get something half decent - and quicker/more fun, as that's the impression I get that you're after, providing you can stomach running costs of a hot hatch.

I had one for a while, although it was the facelift model. Mine had a tiny bit of rust below the rear window, although it just sanded straight off. Can't remember what the kit is like on the prefaclift models, but mine had xenons, auto lights/wipers, bose stereo, climate and cruise all as standard.

They're really good cars actually - handle well, not that quick but not terribly slow, and mine was utterly reliable despite me taking it to 165k and driving it pretty hard.

I'm in an awkward position right now. I don't have much money to my name because I only left education/an apprenticeship a month ago, and have just started my career (I am now a third line service support engineer)... My first pay-cheque is on Friday!

I was planning on keeping the Polo for another 6 months or so, after which I'd have plenty of money to comfortably buy a decent hot hatch with change, however I need a car to get to work, and this one is threatening to die on me at an inconvenient time...

Maybe I should just fork out the £350 to get a second hand gearbox fitted, and stick to my original plan of saving for a few months. Better the devil you know and all that...

Just get a 1500 quid hot hatch? At least that way we don't have to keep hearing about how slow your car is!

Mk4 golf gti, ST170, Clio 172/182, Corolla t sport, mk1 octavia vrs... All can be had at 1500 quid. Few hundred quid part ex just leaves a grand to find to get something that works and you can enjoy

Nah I'll just keep the Polo until it keels over, then get a used gearbox fitted, and keep moaning about it. What would Acme be without his Polo? :p

At the end of the day, what is £350 to offset the death of my car for a while, so that I can get something I actually want, instead of compromising and getting something cheap now.

I went to see my car at the bodyshop, should be done tomorrow then it will stay garaged till I fix some issues and buy some new wheels.

There was a bloke who was asking a lot of questions about my car, power etc and said that his car was tail happy... I then asked him what he had, he pointed over to his 2011 BMW m5, I was like, "I would love to be a passenger in that car, never been in one"... So he hands me the keys and says "you can drive". I then said, what about insurance? (im tpf&t), he then said it was on a trade policy and that anyone is insured to drive it. Anyway I wasn't going to argue, got in it, went on the main road and ragged the heck out of it, managed to find an industrial private of course estate with a long straight.... OMG it shifts, I had it in D mode as it was all a bit too much for me to soak in, the noise inside wasn't that impressive but it shifted like shizz off a shoval!

In a few years time hopefully my supra will be touching 600hp+, still prefer the rawness of it. :)

Got all the bits sorted to do my rear brake pads and discs - they've been on the car for 92k miles now so they've done pretty good. Dash is moaning at me to get it sorted out. I've changed brake pads and discs before but never on a car that has a pad wear sensor - I foolishly assumed that the pads for each wheel would have its own sensor so I ordered two but apparently there is just the one :o Oh well only 9 quid wasted.

Out of interest have you thought about your next car?
