What have you done to your car today?

Nice, those plastic knobs look like they came out of a Vectra

Nah, they're a Volvo part along with various other bits.

Small manufacturers have always raided other peoples parts bins due to the cost of development and testing for mundane parts. The Aston Virage used Audi headlights and VW Scirocco tail lights for example, Lotus used Toyota Corolla ones for the Esprit. An older early 80s Lotus a mate had was full of British Leyland bits.

Shame you didn't get any after pics - I would have liked to see that.

Am I correct in thinking that the Hydrate 80 differs from the De-Ox Gel as it converts rust whereas the De-Ox removes it?

Need to do this on the MX5 and Evo before the winter. Both aren't exactly bad but could do with the attention.

Yes, the De-Ox gel removes the rust. I think De-Ox gel will probably do a better job but takes longer. If you don't have too much rust, probably a better idea. It would probably take me couple of weeks to do mine properly with De-Ox gel.

The Hydrate 80 is kind of like a semi-permanent solution. It's quick, convert the rust and put a protective layer on.

I think my subframe is too far gone in terms of rust. The plan is to make it last a little bit longer and I will have it changed eventually. I already have a good second hand one lined up. Probably get it powder coated before I fit it.

Surprised it works given it's the first time you've used it :p AC should be on often, if not always!

Last night's wind and thunder lashed hundreds and hundreds of little greenflies all over my car, most of them slid off the paint but the roof was another matter, they simply got stuck in the fibres and you could see them wriggling about :S

Engine warning light came on when I was on my way home.

"malfunction in cooling system"

I'm not sure if it was about my car or me! :p

Car seems fine now. But my bodily cooling system is still malfunctioning. :(

Too hot...

I was looking forward to driving my Accord today with my newly charged Air-Con.
Didn't disappoint :)
Four hours driving in this heat would not have been pleasant!

Esprits famously used Marina door handles. The Elise still uses the column stalks (and presumably the upper steering column) from the Corsa B.

Picked up some scratches on my near side a pillar, wing mirror, and front door on the way home this evening thanks to a flying sheet of plastic on the motorway.

Great.

Guess I'll be brushing up on my wet-sanding skills then.

If you're me, yeah :p

Can provide mask cut-out of my face for interested parties*

*Not interesting parties, though.

Outer skin completely sound deadened, inner skin sound deadened and any holes sealed, Done the same for rear quarter panels, 22mm MDF rings front and rear, JBL Components up front, JBL Co-Axials in rear.

Tomorrow I'll be routing new wiring into the front doors and rear quarter panels and amp all 4 speakers. Sounds absolutely fantastic right now, Can only imagine how good it'll sound once new wiring fitted, amped up, scoped and equalised properly. :)

I've ordered some smaller 4" polishing pads and appropriate backing pad for my DA to make buffing the smaller areas easier but since my 2000 and 3000 grit sandpaper arrived today I thought I'd make a start on removing my fibreglass-inflicted scratches.

The A-pillar scratch was the worst - this almost looked like it has breached the clear coat:

But a bit of wet-sanding later:

And it's pretty much gone. Quick photo after buffing it with a damp cloth:

I still need to finish the area with some finishing compound but that can wait 'til tomorrow once I get my smaller pads.

I then gave the scratch on the door below the mirror the same treatment but I didn't take any before/after photos for that. I then wet-sanded the door mirror casing to get rid of the scratches on there, and quickly buffed it. Just needs a proper buff and finish and it'll be as good as new.

Always good to learn new skills and wet-sanding is pretty easy as long as you go very gently. Ideally you want a paint thickness gauge if you're going to do entire panels but tbh if you use 2000 grit and up and don't apply much pressure then you're removing such small amounts of clear coat in one go that you'd have to go quite mad in order to go through.

Nice job there, I badly need to do mine. What deadening did you use, and how much did you need?
