What have you done to your car today?

fitted LED interior lights, no idea what they will be like until its dark obviously. I wasn't sure what to get in terms of brightness so I went for 3 and 4 SMD festoon's instead of 6 and 8 as I didn't want them overly bright but will have to wait and see.

Investigated the engine woes.

No.3 = dead. I had the WG actuator line come off, boost pressure went through the roof and bad detonation, so it's almost definitely wrecked the ring lands.

Extracted the ignition barrel from a friend's Saab 9-3 droptop to investigate a starting issue, having ruled out a relay and the neutral safety switch. Damn thing is all kinds of gunged up. Guess that's what happens when the barrel is down by the gear selector rather than in the steering column.

Not perfect, but better. Think I'll end up dismantling and rebuilding it yet.

Removed the PCV valve hose on the banger e36. It has basically disintegrated from the inside out and keeps popping off the valve cover.
Changed it for some extra thick fuel hose from a landrover we had lying about. It does need a new valve asap. It seems it's original, and it should be a fairly regular service part. Mine seems to be 20 years old and would explain the slightly rough idle :)

how did you manage it in the end? on mine I've tried warming it up, WD40, glass cleaner but nothing is making it budge.

such an awkward position to scrub as well..

Try isopropyl alcohol or even some nail varnish remover, will melt the goo away.

Found the reason why my son's car wouldn't start this morning (the recovery company didn't find it).

The battery earth strap had snapped from the gearbox. Nice easy cheap fix and one smug dad :)

Cleaned and waxed with Poor Boys detail and wax, no pics sorry :(

Cleaned my Alloys too but one is flaking quite badly, its a 2014 Skoda Octavia was involved in a lorry going into the side of me, the Alloy got refurbed by Trust Ford rather than replaced and its doing this, only had it back 4 weeks. Also noticed when cleaning it, there is muck around the holes where the bolts go into, this has been sprayed over and not cleaned properly as it does not come off and you can clearly feel the smooth paint over it  Only noticed now, quite a shocking job for a respectable body shop

This is cleaned, just taken now but the other 3 look spotless after cleaning.

The MisterTwo got the new radiator dropped in yesterday. Back on the road and another 250 on the odometer. :) It is my first mid-engine runabout, they can be a little bit addictive...

Next job is taking out the pre-cats before they take out the engine, so shopping for quotes on either gutting the cats from the stock manifold or swapping it out for a Che manifold, possibly getting a cat back lotus style twin exit at same time.
