What have you done to your car today?

Sold it... Now the hunt for something more bargey and old man like. As dull as possible

Great success

Been in one. Wasn't bad. Wasn't too good either*. :p

*especially when it has wood and cream leather. Both looked horrifically plastic.

Pah, I've always liked them.

I started my day getting a train to Oxford from Exeter to look at and hopefully drive home an 06 Saab 9-5 aero from a dealership. Was at a silly low price and the dealer assured me it was all good, just needed a scuff sorted on the front bumper. It was a complete shed - 4 illegal tyres, rattle cam chain, cracked exhaust manifold, squeaky rear shocks, flickering and vibrating (!!) xenon headlight.... Walked away a bit peeved but not prepared to take that gamble.

Sat on the train home looking at AT, found the jag which looked really tidy and was local to me. So called when I got home and went to see them this evening - it's a MINT 2004 2.5 AWD SE manual. 4 brand new SC5 tyres, new discs/pads on the front and pads on the rear... Barely a mark on it, 72k miles. Would have preferred a 3.0 but for £1800 you can't knock it :)

It's mondeo money but love the way they look, has the light blue leather and walnut dash that looked like cow and tree respectively.

How do you do that? Can I do it with a standard business cd head unit and keep cd changer functionality or does it replace that?

It was a simple plug and play job for me. From late 2002 onward there is a socket behind the head unit for which you can get a retrofit aux in kit. Has no effect on anything else, just adds the function.
I'm not sure whether that's just for the wide screen nav equipped cars though so you'd need to check on that.

Not done anything to the car but I have purchased this:

Manual steering rack fitted with quaife rack & pinion giving 2.5 turns lock to lock.. a big improvement over the standard 3.5 turns, or 4 turns on a manual rack! Got it for a good price and came within a week from Spain. A little something to do over winter, going to be fitted along with this:

Not my car, but I was doing a full service on my friends Micra.

All was going well until I got the scrap oil can mixed up with another one... Suddenly I had contaminated about 16 litres of Quantum Platinum fully synth...

£££ :(

Interesting choice, especially the 2.5. How does it compare to the Octavia?

Yep would have preferred the 3.0 but I didn't have the time (or inclination frankly) to try and find one that is in this good condition. Picking it up a bit later so can't comment on depth but it's obviously a completely different beast to the Octavia. The Octavia was a hoot but the seats always gave me a sore back (even on my 20 minute commute sometimes!) and the pedal layout was quite uncomfortable for me (I've got very short legs for my height). I rarely had the chance to enjoy what the Octavia offered so wanted something with a bit of performance but more comfort focused.

This isn't as quick, sure - but it's much smoother (obviously), quieter and still pokey enough - 60 in about 8 seconds. The interior probably isn't as well built as the skoda but it's a much nicer place to be, light leather and wood compared to black on black.

Should cost about the same to run although doesn't need SUL fuel. Sold the skoda for an amount that meant it cost me nothing to own for the 6 months I had it and this cost less than half what the skoda cost so it's win win :)

Bought two new rear tyres (MPSS) from TyreLeader as I've picked up a slow puncture on one of my rears - 2x 275/35-20 for £380!

Tyre leader are really good - cheapest I've found by a considerable margin and they actually use a good courier as well (DPD).

I agree with the above. I have bought 14 tyres from TyreLeader in 4 separate orders so far and each time the price was better than anywhere else, and they arrived in 3 or 4 days. :)

Went to see friends, ended up taking the car out for a little dori dori. Didn't try any heroics on the walled oval but satisfied that I can still do it ahead of drift matsuri next weekend :)
