What have you done to your car today?

Having a bit of a nightmare with my Civic. Just before I had it lowered it had started creaking/squeaking from the OSF, especially from cold, after you drove for a bit it went away.

Anyway, had it lowered along with new wishbone bushes, ARB drop links and D bushes, ball joints, camber bolts up front. Couple of times at other garages it was noticed the ball joints were a bit past it and bushes were soft. All that lot sorted and it still squeaked and creaked. Not ideal!

Further diagnosis found the OSF top mount pretty knackered. One told off mechanic later and we agreed that I would provide a genuine top mount and a new track rod end (boot split and MOT due in Feb) and they would fit the top mount FOC and TRE whilst they are there, charge me to fit the rear camber arms, and half price alignment.

So we did all that and the car still squeaks and creaks! :D So, a decision that the shock is fubared was made. Queue new shock, yes I should do in pairs but I hadn't budgeted for this at Xmas so 1 x Sachs shock purchased. Call tonight "We can't get this thing to align up" and he told me loads of technical stuff with degrees and minutes and stuff and the long and short is, he thinks the new shock is bent! Haha.

I'll love my car for a bit when I get it back as I've been stuck with their courtesy 1.2 8v Punto for a week. I am hoping the bill isn't too bad, totally wrong time of year/life for me to have ongoing car problems :D This car started out cheap but because I can't help but mess I've wasted thousands. Oops.

Dudes, I am torn :cool: I have spent a lot on an old banger to chuck it all away quite so soon... so I think I will keep it.

I am totally doomed though, my not so cheap EP3 a few years ago I lowered etc at this time of year, that had a failed ball joint... new one fitted, the hub cracked! Got a second hand hub, turns out by time new wheel bearing fitted, hub fitted and stuff, the hub was bent! Couldn't really tell from physically looking then when the wheel was fitted it sort of stood out. I should really learn from my mistakes.

My missus is going mad about this red one :D Quite funny really.

Sidenote; Wedrum I didn't realise you drove an M5 :cool:

Yes! :D Though I could see where I was going on the way home earlier, the front fog lights were still working so I cautiously drove on those. They're in the main light cluster in projector units and are quite bright.
 
Took my SAAB 9-5 out of a 3 month hibernation. Took it for MOT and it passed without fault. However since its been sat for 3 months the EML has come on.

Scanning it shows a faulty Crank and Camshaft sensor. Now the 2.2TiD doesn't have a Camshaft sensor as such.

I've been and bought a new crankshaft sensor and got my own fault code reader to clear the codes. What confuses me is the garage where the MOT was done, claim it needs a brand new timing chain as the current one has stretched? Runs perfectly from cold up to temperature then it goes into limp home mode.anyone had any experience with anything similar on any car?
 
My old (petrol) VW did something similar, that was the crank position and the coolant temp sensor. As soon as it got up to temperature it would conk out due to incorrect fuelling. Turn it off, and back on again and it was fine...

changed the brake light switch on the Porsche. Took it for a drive and it felt awesome. Windscreen rubber came loose and needed putting back. Happened a couple of times now so needs a dab of windscreen glue.

Cheers, I've read crank position sensor and that it's only an issue when the engine is at temperature as it's attached to the engine block so the heat affects it. I'll start by changing that. Don't fancy jumping into a £1K chain change.

Always use 3M Dual Lock.

I should clarify, the holes were already in the bumper, I was just drilling the holes in the number-plates themselves. Don't think I'd have the guts to take a drill to any car!
 
Just washed and cleaned alloys up ready to start soul destroying job of sanding alloys down ready for repainting :eek:

Took it to TheMX5Restorer in Eastbourne for an inspection, got a quote for the chassis rail repair. Was told it isn't that bad and if I felt so inclined I could theoretically ignore it for a couple of years then take it back. :p

They said the condition was generally very good, the previous sill repairs were done to a good standard, the only bodywork rust was under the boot lid lip and a very small amount coming back on the inside of one rear arch (minor enough to just sand back and paint)

No play in the bushes and things, steering rack is good, gaiters are good, and he noted that it sounds like the centre silencer baffle might have come loose, the exhaust heatshield is a little loose, and that was it really. Gave me a checklist with all their findings on it, and even topped up my screenwash for me, they even checked all the fluid levels, the tyre depths, tyre condition, and other bits including telling me where there was filler under the paint (rear arches and a few small bits on the bonnet). All totally FOC because it generates business for them.

Very nice people, very knowledgeable. There was another red MK2 there which had already had the sills and rails done, and the undersealing, and the quality of the work looked excellent, so I'm happy to take it back at some point and have them sort it. :)

Went for a drive of about 100 miles with the roof down and a stupid hat on afterwards as well. I haven't really stopped driving about today! :p

It is really fun, especially with the roof down. Even in the cold and fog. Plus the baffled looks you get for driving in this weather with the roof down are excellent... :D
