What have you done to your car today?

Yea not too worried about the clocking of the turbo, just the bloody intercooler pipework.. Cant do any of that until my exhaust manifold gasket turns up so I can fit the manifold etc..

Injectors have been swapped, rads removed, also waiting on ECU as well :/

Cold side is easy two 90s out of the IC to make a U bend, another 90 to shoot it upwards into a hard pipe then a 90 reducer onto the throttle body

Garage currently looks like a minefield. Doing cambelt, waterpump, pulleys and cam/crankshaft seals. As with these things you spend 90% of your time removing everything to get to the part you want to change!

Edit: sussed

Swallowed my confidence pill this morning and tackled the heater plate job on my own. It was surprisingly easy to get it all apart, much easier than I expected. Now all I need to do is clean off the old gasket from the head/manifold and start to rebuild it this afternoon.

The offending article removed.

Job done. No cuts, bruises or breakages, everything came off quite easily for a change. I resorted to washers to space out the manifold bolts like most others seem to have done.

As usual it took a long time scraping the old gasket off. There wasn't a lot of manoeuvring room. If I could have removed the vacuum pipe for the brake servo, I could have taken the manifold out of the car.

Reassembled the jigsaw. Still got the manifold support bracket to refit, cable tie the oil pressure/alternator/starter cables back onto the dipstick tube and I need to refill the coolant.

Cleaned and sealed front wheels, never letting them get in that state again, baked on brake dust is a *****. It took me ages to clean / prep them properly. That is a hair on the back of the wheel btw, not a crack ;)

New wheels and tyres all round, looking forwards to dropping down to a 16" higher profile non staggered setup!

Purchased a new auxiliary belt as the original is starting to show slight cracks, figured better safe than sorry!

Done some reading online and seems like a simple job, just limited by the tiny engine bay and awkward positioning of everything.

Gotta love small French cars eh!

Guy who I work with did one on a Megane 1.6 a week or two ago. Was a nightmare of a job due to the space he had to work in.

Quick question to those who might know - probably doesn't warrant it's own thread creation.

About two years ago I had a non-fault accident where someone clipped the rear quarter of my car (just in front of the rear wheels), their insurance company arranged to have it fixed at one of their insurance approved bodyshops. Over the last few months I've noticed a rust bubble forming underneath the strip that runs along the lower half of the car (car is an E46 330ci), after washing the car, the bubble has popped and left behind a rust spot. I'm worried it might spread and could be underneath the strip.

Obviously I'd like to get it sorted - who would I contact? The bodyshop that did the work, or the other insurance company?

Can get pics if needed. I don't think it's a stone chip judging by the location, would it be best to remove the strip and look myself or leave it to a garage?

cheers.

Wife mentioned that she thought the exhaust was hanging quite low on the S-Max so I went to take a look at it and sure enough, it was ridiculous. Turns out that the support bracket that holds the exhaust onto the rubber hanger has rusted away from the back box itself so it's basically just flapping about. No holes or anything in the back box (but it has had an advisory for corroded outer skin for a while) but I very much doubt anyone would bother welding a new bracket back onto it. Ended up tying it up with lots of metal wire so it's at least in place now until, hopefully, I get a new back box on tomorrow.

Another option could be to just use metal cable ties to hold it in place as I'm sure that'd be ok for a while but I might as well get it sorted properly I suppose.

At work I keep old cylinder head bolts to weld onto exhausts to make brackets, it's quite common for the rear mount to break on the Focus too. Just bend the bolt, and the bolt head stops the rubber sliding off.

Got a quote to finish the mk2 hilux. Chop out all the rust soda blast and a realistic allowance for repairs £8k

How much can a 1986 hilux be worth? Doubt that much :p
