What have you done to your car today?

Sold the Fiesta. Need to look for a decent 5 door now, something along the lines of the mk3 focus. Rate cannot be arsed with it though.

Coming home from shops today I noticed the yellow warning light on but nothing to tell me what it was - Got home and did a bit of checking and it was low battery in fob - changed both fob batteries - Phew what a relief.

It did tell me but only when turning ignition on and pressing brake to start it - Last one was low tyre pressure which did warn me whilst driving.

After blowing up the engine last Friday, I stayed in bed most of Saturday feeling sorry for myself.

Then at 6:30am on Sunday, went to get the Supra recovered. Engine out by lunch time, followed by a complete strip down to see what happened.

Bottom end bearings were completely perfect, no major wear or scouring and all bearing oil clearances were within spec.

Headgasket and head looked great too. But pistons had been rubbing on the walls of the chambers, and some had welded the top oil ring into the piston itself.

Hard to say if this was caused from wear and tear and being abused in a track car in the previous owners car, or if prolonged motorway load caused the failure due to overheating. Either way, the block and pistons were toast.

Swapped my crank and bearings into another 1JZ block & head that previously had bearing issues and re-assembled the engine over an 12 hour shift.

Engine is purring away nicely again now. Will be taking it easy and monitoring oil temps and pressure like a hawk over the next few days.

Going to take my old 1J head and stick it onto a 2JZ block in next few days, then drop that it. But at least I can get to work again in the meantime!

Now thats a good effort, blown up week before, rebuilt and up and running a week later. Great work!

Think when I did bottom end on M3 it was in bits for nearly a month. :D

Rainagul, you put everything else we do in here to shame... Every post is "re-built the engine" - "put a new engine in" - "new turbos" etc :p

Had a ABS light show up a few weeks ago, reckon it's a dodgy sensor however reluctor rings are a known fault. Took me 4 hours just to change the drivers side. Gave up for today on that.

Also, fixed the window roller so now I have a drivers window.

Had a bit of a day in the sunshine today, giving the M3 some attention. I've wanted to remove the intake system and give it all a clean for ages, but have been too afraid too/not had enough time/not had good enough weather. So finally today I was feeling brave, I had time, the sun was out. Took the plenum off and gave it a clean, along with the idle control valve and the throttle bodies. I also put a new throttle position sensor in under the plenum whilst I had it all in bits. All in all, quite an easy job. The only thing which is a PITA is redoing those circlips on the throttle bodies. Eventually though I figured out how to do them and like anything on cars, it's knowing how it do it properly and knowing the tricks of doing it which allow you to finish the job quickly. Now I think I could take off the plenum and replace it in about 30 minutes.

For anyone interested here's a 30 second step by step.

- Remove strut brace (4 x 13mm)
- Remove cabin filter and cabin filter housing (3 turn clips, followed by 4 Torx T....30? screws)
- Remove top PCV hose
- Remove air intake system (remove xenon ballast cover and a couple of nuts, loosen some jubliee clips and pull stuff out) and unclip MAF sensor.
- Undo the chrome 10mm screw holding the dipstick on
- Undo the two 10mm nuts holding the plenum to the bracket underneath (I recommend using a ratchet combination spanner, preferably with a flex head)
- Use some pliers to squeeze a hose near the front and wiggle it out.
- Undo a few misc connectors that might be hanging around (battery cable and hose that runs to the back of the plenum and another one off the bottom of the plenum that just pushes off a flat bracket)
- Unclip all 6 of the circlips holding the plenum to the throttle bodies.
- Grab the side of the plenum (the big oval hole) and repeatedly rock/pull upwards and away from the throttle bodies.
- The small hose that runs to the sump should just fall off as you lift it out.

It sounds like a lot, but in reality it isn't. You're just unclipping anything you see connected to the plenum. Oh and if you take the hoses of the ICV (ICV underneath TB 2), you won't be able to get them back on. They aren't like the other circlips there is nowhere to allow you to squeeze them back on. I had to substitute them with two jubliee clips in the end.

amazing!! That makes it very clear. I was thinking much the same as you, it didn't quite make sense.

But, whatever, the guy has totally knackered it. Claiming that as wear and tear is a bit odd.

I guess BMW saw it spinning, and just said, it's not meant to be like that!

Was just looking back over old posts and saw this - did you ever get this sorted and a new windscreen fitted?

I wouldn't say he's putting us to shame...at least our engines.don't keep blowing up!
Starting to worry about his standards of workmanship!

Screen fitted, and they eventually (4th time of visiting) bought the whole wiper arm. The junction point for the washer jets was broken in the original install, and BMW being BMW you have to buy the whole wiper assembly to fix it. They tried buying all sorts, even the wrong side wiper, as it had a similar bit on it, and that didn't work either. So had they actually bought the right bit first time (£150 odd) it would have been much cheaper for them!

When they came to take the wiper off, I did it for them first time, to prove it could be done, then they managed it themselves the next three times they visited.

The guy they sent the last 3 times was actually very good, just seems to be he works for a TERRIBLE company!
