what headphones do you own thread - i own dt150's :)

Currently have the Denon AHD 1100 http://www.head-fi.org/products/denon-ah-d1100

What would be a decent upgrade? Currently looking at Sony MDR 1R and Philips Fidelio X1. Would either represent a good upgrade?

I think I would like a more balanced sound as the Denon's are extremely rich in bass. But don't want a boring flat sound either. I guess I'd like a more "true" sound while still being fun to listen to.

I had the Sennheiser HD 595 for a long time and I never really liked them, they were too flat and boring.

So any suggestions would be great, thanks :)

I use headphones for gaming and listening to rock/metal music.

I think you need a headphone amp for the senn 595

I was very very close to getting the MDR-1R NC prior to getting the X1s. I still don't know if I made the right choice, but the X1s are a damn fine head phone and good all rounders for home listening.

Both are very warm sounding headphones in my opinion. You can probably get a listen to the Sonys if you go to a Sony centre, take your own headphones with you and see if you can compare.

Sony MDR 1R I don't like the build quality too much plastic especially in strain areas.Get fidelio x1 or beyer dynamics or akg 550 over the sonys any old day.
The fidelio x1 need an amp in my opinion contrary to popular opinion to my ears they don't come alive until amped, just because something is low ohm doesn't mean they sound as good unamped vs amped.

I almost bought the new DT 770 LE 30ohm beyers but read that they can be harsh on the highs.
If you want a sparkly clean punchy sound with lots of "timbre" I wouldn't get the x1 they have a warm smooth sound no sparkle in the treble or mids it's rolled off deliberately you still hear all the detail it's just delicate.

As an all rounder the x1 are the best ive ever heard especially movies and gaming under dolby headphone, they play really well with dolby headphone.
As a pure listening to music in stereo headphone I am not sure about that there is probably better for stereo listening.

There great! Got them for like €60. Only use them at home though, couldn't go out with them on my head, they're huge!

I currently use some Sennheiser HDR170s - They're my first pair of quality headphones (so the sound quality is a step up from everything I've used in the past), and I can't imagine going back to wired headphones now: the freedom of being able to go and grab a drink without having to worry about taking them off/getting wires tangled in my legs etc etc is just fantastic.

Guys,

Looking for some advice, I am looking for a pair of headphones to mainly use indoor and possibly on long flights etc...

Just seen the Sennheiser HD598 on for £149, is this something that you would recommend? I will be mainly listening to music and movies. I would like to have a pair that don't need anything extra like an amp. They look comfortable which is great and the reviews all seem very positive, I wouldn't call myself an audiophile but definitely appreciate hearing my music as it should be.

Thoughts?
