what headphones do you own thread - i own dt150's :)

Gaming - AKG K702

Music / Films - AKG K550

Spares:

Astro A40 - crap in comparison to the K702s

Steelseries Siberia V2 - wanted the steelseries rival mouse and mat so bought the bundle which effectively got these for free. Removed from packaging, tried and not as good as the K702's

All used with creative soundblaster zx.

Beyerdynamic DT770 pro.

Relatively cheap but they do sound great and are nice and comfortable, had them for quite a while now and still going strong.

I've just ordered a pair of DT990 premiums. I previously had a set of K712s that I loved, but I decided I wanted something more lively this time.

Just listening to my latest acquisitions - Sennheiser HD800s.

It's early days, but my findings so far are in alignment with reviews: forensic detail at the expense of musical enjoyment. Not great rock phones, that's for sure.

Oh, I don't want to give the impression that they're bad, by any means - heck, I'm listening to some choral music right now, and they sound lovely - but in terms of pure visceral musical enjoyment, I'm surprised by how they lack compared to my Audezes.

Luckily, I bought them primarily for mixing and mastering, and I think this is where they'll have the Audezes beat :)

They rule when it comes to analytical and if you have Audezes too then you have all bases covered and at a level most of us only dream of - enjoy :D

Dunno how long you've had them but I've found with a good number of Sennheiser headphones they take a bit of use (50-100 hours) to "burn in" - end of the day though as you mentioned stuff like the 600, 800s, etc. are aimed at reference use and won't necessarily give the best listening experience compared to other models.

(Bit of a sore point for me as I like my 600s and they get a bit of stick sometimes from people who bought them not understanding what they are designed for).

I have to say, after only an evening of listening, that the HD800s are growing on me.

What I initially took to be a flat [as in 'acceptably neutral but uninspiring'] low-end response is actually the headphones pointing out the absence of low/sub frequency energy present in a surprising number of recordings/masters. Modern recordings and good masters with healthy low-frequency content shine [though the Audeze XCs do shine more in this department, but hey - planars]. Separation is beginning to impress me too.

It's fair to say that these things are unforgiving to the point of being cruel - and I really appreciate that :D :)

I personally didn't like the HD800 for anything apart from gaming. They just have this unnatural tonality. It is however top notch for imaging! I think the HD650 is a better listen.

I really like how the soundstag depth in the HD800.

Just picked up some Philips SHP9500 to add to my AKG 712's & Senn Ones. I must say for the £32.50 I bought them for they are very good !... Mint condition too

I got the Shure shr1540's and I have never ... ever ...ever heard anything from a set of headphones like it ... I use it for gaming, for hifi music and movies and I have never heard anything like them ... but at a price mind you :D

I find the same with my hd700s good recordings are like wow:D but poor recordings sound carp so its a bit of a two edged sword really.

Yeh these are my current / favorite headphones as well.

Still sticking with my hifiman he-500's but its getting harder to resist a pair of he-6. I heard them at a hifi show and instantly fell in love, the only thing that i have heard that has bested them was stax.

Still only own the HD600.
Been using for this year, and very happy with what I chose.
Soundstage isn't great for gaming. But it's still clear where the sound is.
But for music they're almost perfect for me.

Hd 595: Had for 7 years the headband formed a crack and broke off, loved these headphones.

AKG 702s: Great Headphones had these for about 2 years, started looking a bit tatty and I wanted more bass.

HD 580: Bought these next, did not like them at all the treble was so in your face and loud compared to anything else. The AKG 702s sounded a lot smoother and were easier to listen to.

HD8 DJ: Really really like these they sound great, the bass is really clean and everything else is right on point. For electronic music they smash all of my other headphones.

O2 Amp: Bought this when I bought the AKG 702s

STX Soundcard: Recently bought this, sounds so good I don't even use the O2 amp any more.
