what headphones do you own thread - i own dt150's :)

I've swapped them back and forth multiple times, and there's definitely a difference. I'm not generally a believer in high end cable differences but tried these on a recommendation.

Keep in mind this is the cable from the headphones to the amp, not an interconnect or USB cable. They definitely give the headphones a darker sound, improving the bass and making them less harsh in the treble.

Having ordered that many headphones, I wanted to be absolutely sure that I was making the right choice, I wouldn't simply keep something that I didn't like, I'm not in the habit of wasting money! If I didn't feel the cable made a jot of difference, it would be going back as well.

did you try a different cheap cable?

I mean I have no doubt the stock cable could be pants ( I own X1's and my kabel direct cable was a huge improvement) but what makes a £200+ cable so noticeably different from say a £50 cable or is it because it's for the hd800 it just costs more because you've spent the thick end of £1000 on the headphones you won't mind spending X on the headphone cable.

I haven't, though it would be interesting to do so.

The Moon Audio cables are the same price regardless of the headphones you use them on as an FYI.

I don't think the stock cable is bad, I've never heard of anyone criticizing the HD800 cable, nor would I expect it to be poor given the price of the headphones. I was surprised to hear any sound differences at all, though I'm pleasantly surprised!

Fair enough neither have I, just seams like a radical leap in faith off the back of a recomendation to buy a £300 cable So I wondered if you'd tested other cables.

I've heard of it before - in the case I know of it came down to the Moon Audio cable being shorter than the HD800 stock cable with the longer cable causing issues with stray capacitance effecting the amp - exactly the same effect was got by buying a shorter stock cable though they are hard to find and even harder to find at the same or better quality than the original without spending out a lot of money anyhow. (There is a thread on it somewhere think it was head-fi).

I have my trusty pair of Sennheiser HD 25-1 II's. Had them for several years now and they are built like a tank.

Mainly use them for mixing but I need new needles for my 1210's so haven't used them in several weeks or maybe a few months.

When you consider I ordered worth of headphones to try, I didn't feel based off a recommendation by my Father was all that bad!

when you put it like that ;)

Ive spent a fair bit on headphone listening in the last 12 months...

The Bose ones have a USELESS cable, it lasted (I **** you not) 10 minutes of my first flight before I managed to, with the slightest of knocks, stop it working properly. On the return flight I left part of it in the headphone socket, but pleasingly it stopped them working 100%!! :(

Expensive, average sounding, good isolation, **** cable.

Oh yea...and this

Nice setup Housey, I was always very happy with my T90's.

I agree on the QC25's too, I have a pair that I travel with. I wish someone else would come up with equally decent noise cancelling, as honestly, aside from their aviation or noise cancelling headsets, I have no love for Bose.

The only reason for the Bose is their noise cancelling on airplanes as I am doing a load of international long hauls, their tech still seems to be the best for cutting noise. My wife wanted the in ears, I wanted the over ears as they have better sound deadening but they are massively overpriced I feel when pure sound quality is concerned.

I should also mention that I'm extremely impressed with Oppo's customer service. They gave me a full refund on the PM1's that I have had since last December. Admittedly the headphones were in as new condition, but I wasn't expecting them to even consider taking them back after 11 months, let alone offer a full refund.

I have the QC20's and as you say, sound quality is not groundbreaking but noise cancelling is quite incredible (Note; I am not a huge audiophile nor have I tested many earphones)

I put them in at the train station in the morning and don't take them out till I am at my desk and I don't hear any of the outside world the whole way. Superb NC.

Managed to grab a pair of VSonic GR06s - the original GR07's baby brother and my first real foray into 'audiophile IEMs'. Missed their sound, I must say.

Just found my Samson SR850's and had a quick listen, I'd forgotten how good they sounded for such a cheap price. I then put my AKG K612's on, connected to my Astro Mixamp, and I much preferred the SR850's :D

I'm looking at buying a Creative Sound Blaster E5 so I'll see if they change the K612's sound at all otherwise I might need to look at replacing my K612's with some headphones with a similar sound to the SR850's.

That's really good of them. That's the type of service I look for when looking for a long term headphone. Some company's **cough cough Shure are up there own A**

Audioquest UK have been bloody good as well.

So owned the MA750is for a week or so as I wanted some IEMs for travel as full size are annoying on the go. They sound really good but started to become so uncomfortable. Played around with different tips and and found the rubber ones to feel the best and really enjoying them.

I was in an audio store the other day and grabbed the SE215 as well haha. I like the MA750 fit better around the ears but the SE215 are so comfortable in my ears. They sound about the same in quality but I think the SE215 sound smoother, more engaging.

Reading headfi some people seem to think the MA750i are worlds apart but I think they are dead even. The Shures are pretty good.

I'm started to take a big interest in IEMs and will be doing some research over the next year to get a main pair for at home listening. I'll be keeping both the SE215 and MA750i.

Main problem with the Shures is a feature that's supposed to increase their longevity - the removable cable. Sadly the connector has an abysmal record of failures and was the main reason I passed on them. Comfort wise they are ridiculously good and they do sound a lot like the MA750s, which fit my HD650 biased tastes.

My main goto IEMs are the Fidue A73, which have everything turned up to 11. :D
They are certainly not as laid back as the MA750s but still have incredible, lush mids. What they add is a ton of sub-bass and lively, detailed but not sibilant (as long as you get a good fit) highs.
