what headphones do you own thread - i own dt150's :)

That's the best graph I've seen from a LCD-3 or any Audeze yet. Nice one!

I've been using my LCD-2 for gaming quite a lot. With the Mixamp it sounds really good. It doesn't quite have the width of a Q701 but it's depth and cohesive sound make it a more natural listen. Was playing The Last Of Us and the imaging was perfect. I was just walking listening to the game world sounds and I felt that I could here subtle detail better than the dynamics I use for gaming.

People always say you don't need a high end pair of headphones for gaming as you don't hear a difference but I def hear more micro detail in these games so designers have more information hidden in these games. I prefer the AKG's width but everything else goes to the superior driver. I also notice how voices are so relalistic in games. With my other dynamics I don't pick that up as much as there's this disconnection due to the soundstage. Sub bass is also great for games, so much depth and impact!

If the LCD-2 ends up being my main gaming rig then that's pretty funny haha

Grinning like an idiot at the moment for the sum of £25 (oooerrr :p)

Superlux HD681

Light, cheap, comfortable, apparently the pads can be swapped for AKG ones for the obvious reason that its pretty much a clone of the AKG frame.

The drivers are not clones but they did a nice job with their own, larger, 50mm ones which apparently need time to burn in to sound their best but out the box they are pretty sweet.

Really liked listening to this...

TWENTY FIVE POUNDS!

I've had a couple of days with the Sennheiser Momentum 2.0 over ears. I've been doing back to back comparisons with my 250ohm DT770's.

Overall opinions so far.
+ Sound stage is slightly wider
+ Mid range is warmer, vocals are more upfront
+ bass is quite good and with a flat EQ, better than the Beyers which need EQ and an AMP before they really rock
But
- They feel odd and not quite as comfortable, you can adjust them in many ways and I've found myself adjusting them after 10 minutes to ensure they don't start hurting
- They do suit some music types better than the Beyers, and others not so much
- They don't wow me, the Beyers are already a good well controlled headphone.

I am in two minds if I should return them, the issue I now have is having upgraded my PC speaker setup, that makes just about everything sound good, and I can't help but notice that my headphones don't give me that same accross the board performance.

I want to try the DT 1770's since these are supposed to be night and day better than the DT770s and add more forward midrange and a better soundstage/imaging which I think would make for a very enjoyable experience, but I can't find anywhere to demo them!

If the momentum a are sounding more spacious than your DT770 something isn't right.

Do not under any circumstances, spend all that money on the DT1770! If you want something a bit more balanced then look into something like the HD650 but if you want closed then I'd recommend something like the NAD Viso HP50.

Thanks,

Regarding the soundstage, it is a little wider, but it's imaging is different, I've not heard any reviews that notably mention soundstage as being terrible on the Senns, and it's one area I'm quite sensitive to.

I do like the hd650s, but you are right, I need closed. I have read some reviews of the dt 1770 that compare to the 770 with a notably wider soundstage, more forward mid, and overall better control, but I would not buy them without auditioning. The Nads might be a good shout, I'll take a look.

The momentum are actually a good headphone, for £180 they sound good to my ears, the issue really is, the dt770s they suit some music notably better than others and are not any more refined than the dt770s and I'm after something that is like the 770, but would like sightly more forward and warmer mid, more separation and refinement, and a wider soundstage wuld be nice.

I have some Superlux HD668b too, been running them in for a week now and they do improve over some really good value for money to start with.

Just moved to some Yamaha HPH-200 and the difference is the sound stage is less distant and more immediate and it's like there's a warm breeze passing through it compared to the Superlux.

I was going to go with Equalizer APO from source forge but after moving to the Yamaha I don't think I need that now.

Not used the Superlux after that Yamahas arrived but I was really enjoying them before that.

Had some Beyerdynamic DT 235 before that and Sennheiser HD 202 before that.

Was always happy with the Senns until the left speaker ceased working, tried the Beyers and they sounded too bright at first but got used to them after a few hours, tried the Superlux and thought that was a giant leap forward and now well happy with the Yamaha.

got these today, really like them, i can see why people might consider them harsh, But everything else feel so full and crisp.

Cost me £60 from Amazon Warehouse :P

I hate them, but at £60 that's not bad at all! never seen them that low.

To be fair they are £80, i had £20 voucher knocking about in my account.

These are my first pair of "proper" cans

purchased for 80% of the time for gaming, Was choosing between these and slightly more expensive K702 but herd the DT990 might be better for gaming.

That's still not too bad, the under £100 price range is almot dead in terms of price performance for full sized open phones and at that price they are more than competitive. They are just very polarising because of their choice of signature.

I can hear why some would not like them especially if you have a lot of options. I wouldn't call them relaxing, but to me there quite fun and exciting :p

Im just happy i can now use a mic without having to have one cup off my ear.
With closed sets i would shout at people in games as i couldnt hear my voice, could never get use to it.

I have DT990s, AKG K702s and HD650s: I use the HD650s for music, the K702s for gaming and the DT990s live in their box in the wardrobe :D

To be fair, the DT's were also one of my first steps into decent headphones (after my Sony MDR-v6) too and they kept my ears more than happy for almost a year before I got the AKGs. The K702s are certainly better for gaming (more detailed and larger sound stage) although they also required a lot more amping to drive properly so I also had to upgrade my Creative Sound Blaster Z to an Asus Xonar STX at the same time. Worth it though, Skyrim never sounded so good.

ps. I see you have an STX already so you're good to go for pretty much any headphones - best hide your wallet because this hobby can get very expensive very quickly. :D
