What is in my garden?

Yep my sentiments exactly. Imagine living close to the woods like that. In London that sort of thing is very rare. Here, we tend to live close to concrete structures and tarmac roads.

Update

I had the gamekeeper round on Sunday. We went into the woods in the afternoon and saw nothing. He checked for signs of anything unusual, and couldnt find anything.
Later when it was dark we went out....

Yup its back!! He listened and didnt recognise it at all:eek:

We had a look around and could hear it easily, but could not spot the darn thing:mad:.

He gave me a good idea on how to try and find what it is. Using clay or sand on a tray with food in the middle will leave footprints (he uses this to track mink).

Anyway I will try this and hopefully get a result at long last.

I think you should go predator style and have a team set up to catch it with a net and logs set up, traps and trip wires should do well. In the off chance incase it may be something bad set claymores and have RPG's and mounted machine guns on chance.

Superb. Even the crusty old gamekeeper (please tell me he was old and crusty...) didn't know what it was! This has potential again. You really need to start some sort of video diary.

On a side note; We were staying at a cottage in the Scottish Highlands years ago - middle of nowhere. It backed onto a huge ancient oak forest. One day we heard the most blood-curdling screaming noise coming from the forest - it sounded totally alien.....like nothing from this planet. Imagine the noise if the Predator got his bits caught while doing up his fly - that's what this sounded like. My dad picked up a stick (as if a stick would stop an angry Predator with sore bits...) and we set off to investigate. The closer we got, the more weird it sounded - I can still feel my heart thumping now! We traced it to the water tank (the cottage got its water from a stream.) What had happened was that a big leaf had got wedged in some sort of overflow valve...I can't remember how it worked exactly...and was acting like a reed in a wind instrument - the tank was then amplifying the sound into a metallic screaming noise that carried for miles!
