What is it that makes people hate Apple so much?

It seems that as it's made by Apple, it irritates people for some reason.

I think there is an element of truth to what someone said in that troll thread Easyrider made in GD a while back. That Apple's aggressive 'lifestyle' marketing has successfully made people feel worse about themselves (or their products) as they don't actually own an Apple product, perhaps it's on a subconscious level, and that causes them to aggressively attack Apple and their customers.
I don't believe this for a minute, unless you're also saying that Apple users have fallen for the "lifestyle" marketing and, perhaps on a subconscious level, asses their self worth based on owning an Apple product.

In my experience it's the smugness and evangelical nature of some Apple users that tends to irritate people, not the products themselves. The Mac vs PC ads were a good example of that slightly irritating condescension. The whole "oh, you have a Samsung laptop with Windows? Well I suppose it's perfectly adequate for the average computer user", "Personally i couldn't live without my MacBook, but then I do understand it's a little more expensive and not for everyone". You get the idea :)

Frankly the entire brand loyalty thing is beyond me, why would anyone invest loyalty and emotion in a product or company thats sole interest is in making money from you. I wonder if somewhere there are fanboys arguing over if Zanussi or Hotpoint make the best washing machines (both of whom are then looked down on by Bosch owners) :)

Spoken like a typical Hotpoint owner, all about the "RPMs" ?!?!?!?!!! Lolz. Sure, you have "low temp colour wash" but for the all round experience and attention to detail the Zanussi Air Pro range just feels more stable and loses my socks in a far more elegant way.

Now stop trololololing... the "General Washing forum" is -------> That way.

;)

Ventured over to the mobile forum.. jesus! The amount of Apple hate there is mad. Especially lol worthy is the 'discussion' over the law suit Apple are taking out against Samsung. Like its the first time a major corporation's flexed their legal muscle? but since its Apple this time its cool to associate the company and their users with Hitler or something.

And then there's a sub-war going on between Samsung and HTC fanboys, with a sprinkling of Blackberry "why didn't i get a better phone" people chucked in for good measure..

Please gods of OcUK, never force iPhone discussion to take place in that forum.

Hehe, tell me about it! :o

Lower specced overrated computers that cost much more money, and Steve Jobs is a plonker.

And I cant build my own Apple, nor use their OS on my self built PC, hence I will never use any of their products until that changes.

Unfortunately have just learned that my washing machine hobby is no more, Apple have managed to stop sales of them in the EU due to them being rectangular and having glass on the front :)

I read every page in this thread, and I want to ask the following questions:

1) What is the difference between a Mac running Windows 7, and a self built PC also running Windows 7 other than the price? What reasons would justify a gamer / self builder who likes Windows 7 to want to use a Mac instead?

2) Why does Steve Jobs keep on suing everysingle other company that makes a slightly competing product, even Samsung who actually provide Apple with many of their components?

3) If you pay such a large premium on an Apple computer / product because you say 'the quality is better than a PC', why is it that the components used within both are identical, manufactured mainly by foxconn with such low paid overworked staff that are depressed and suicidal?

4) Why is Steve Jobs such a douchebag?

5) Why do so many people simply think and say 'Apple *insert product name here* is better than everything else?

1.you can't self build a mac, they are designed 'as one'
2.there are almost no real reasons why you could justify a mac to a gamer/ self builder over a , err, self built machine (surely by definition?)

2) Why does Steve Jobs keep on suing everysingle other company that makes a slightly competing product, even Samsung who actually provide Apple with many of their components?
this is how big business works. All the companies are all suing/infringing on everybody elses stuff.
I don't think it's steve jobs, personally, it's in apples interests to do these things.
Samsung is a massive operation, the chip manufacturers and the touchpad group could almost be considered 2 different companies.

3) If you pay such a large premium on an Apple computer / product because you say 'the quality is better than a PC', why is it that the components used within both are identical, manufactured mainly by foxconn with such low paid overworked staff that are depressed and suicidal?

you could say rather than quality, 'the quality of /the design/ ' Sure macs have quirky things but The number of bone-headed design flaws i've seen in pc laptops is astounding. usually as a result of cost cutting.

The components mays be made by the same companies and may even be the same components in many cases, but in some cases the components are just better, and better quality e.g. touch pads, case materials, keyboard lighting, the LCD screens, and not forgetting the MacOSX i.e. total system vertical integration. apple can code the OS for exactly the components in their computers.

4) Why is Steve Jobs such a douchebag?

oooh have i bitten the bait?
I like him, some people dont. I deal with it. You can too.

5) Why do so many people simply think and say 'Apple *insert product name here* is better than everything else?

Dunno. I'm not sure they do. Perhaps it's because apple only make a comparitively small number of products, and there are so many other competing companies producing so many products that you only ever notice when people say that about apple.

Also it may be the case that *insert apple prodcut here* is better than everything else.

I think the first few replies summed a large part of it up tbh...

It's in part the whole "hate large companies" thing. Plenty of others have it and it does go through phases, seems it's Apples turn at the moment, although MS still gets a large bashing as well.

The other major part is:

"That wouldn't happen on a mac"
"My Mac just works"
The crowds and cheering when a new product is released or when a new store opens
"They're jealous because they can't afford it..."

Yady yada...

For most it isn't the company as such but a certain subsection of users that wind them up with their "superiority", even when most of the time there is nothing to be superior about.

It's certainly not unique to just Apple though, as already mentioned a certain subsection of Android users are going that way as well.

Some people need to realise that one single device will suit everyone... Personally I dislike OSX and prefer the current versions of Windows and find iOS to be plain and boring compared to other alternatives, so I don't buy their devices. On the other hand the more recent Apple hardware is very nice, the 27" iMac and 13" macbook Pro/air, which means next time I look for a desktop or laptop I will seriously consider them even if I then put Windows on them (hated the white poly macbooks which is why my current laptop is a Dell, was the best laptop for me at the time).

Unfortunately on the other end of the scale if you do suggest you don't like an Apple product a certain section of society will try and shoot you down for "hating" Apple... Oh and those adverts really do rile me up, however they do their trick, one of the reasons Apple sell so much and one of the reasons for a certain section of Apple users acting like religious zealots!

But that happens with plenty of companies, including Sony, Nokia etc. I just don't get it personally, get the best product for you, not the best product made by a specific company, and certainly not every product made by that company!
