What is it that makes people hate Apple so much?

As a slight aside, does anyone here read Dailytech or Anandtech? Unbelievable level of anti-Apple **** on there. Anyone who bashes Apple gets their comment rated up, anyone who tries to point out that not all Apple users can be tarred with the same brush gets it rated down.

There's even Jason Mick for your daily anti-Apple news stories. Seriously, you can predict who posted a story just from it's title. Any time Apple lose a court case, he's there having a dig in his articles. He's entitled to his opinion of course, but I quite like my news impartial and not written by an absolute spanner.

Mm - it's so hard to find unbiased Apple content online, though.

On one hand you've got the sites like AppleInsider, where all the forum users think that Steve Jobs was the Second Coming and simply refuse to acknowledge any possible flaws in Apple products or strengths of competing products.

On the other hand you've got the more 'techy' sites which spend half their time spitting venom at Apple for daring to be successful by selling phones based on user experience rather than tech specs. Buying an iPhone when there's another phone out there with a faster CPU or a bigger screen makes you a braindead sheep.

There's precious little in between!

That's a little unfair on Anandtech. Anand is a Mac user himself.

Unfortunately the techie nature of the site brings out the Apple bashers.

I can totally understand someone not wanting a Mac, or iPad, or iPhone.

However, some people absolutely HATE Apple, you would think they were a load of child killing nutters the way some people talk about them. It's absolutely bizarre.

Because, just as with a lot of other things, you pay for the brand. They are simply a successful company which attracts hate.

They also like to play boss, closing their systems, banning things like flash, etc... I hate people telling me what I can and cannot do (on the device I bought), just the idea of someone telling me what I can and can not do with my device makes me annoyed.

Also, a lot of people who use their products feel superior despite them being far inferior, it's like, erm, say a Merc A class driver ****ging off a Skoda Superb ( both roughly 28k euro's here). Because haha I'm driving a Merc you're driving a Skoda...

I don't even try to argue with people saying ''I've moved to apple because it's better'', yeah it might be easier to use or better for their use, but objectively, how is a device with a slower cpu, a higher price, less ram, less hdd space, ectectc, in any way better ? I just nod politely, say ''yeah I understand'', and move on...

I admit I like some of their products, I'd love an I-Pad and their OS is perfect for that. I cloud is great. But that doesn't make up for the fact that I hate macbooks especially, for the fact how rubbish the hardware is for the price.

Don't need faster hardware (because the OS & software is made for it) is a much used excuse? Well I don't need a 2.5 liter V6 engine in my car either, a 3 cyl eco diesel will bring me from A to B just as well probably and will definitely reach the speed limit, doesn't mean I don't want a bigger engine...

I like how Apple removed that plate from in front of the heads of many mobile phone companies, I like how they shook up MS, how they made computers, pads and telephones far more user friendly ( teaching an old guy to use an Ipad or Macbook is easier than learning him all about windows), they definitely did many many positive things. But all I see now is better value for money companies ( HTC, Samsung, LG, or any other which offers good hardware with a good OS) overtaking them in the mobile department, Sony, Nintendo and MS keeping their ground in the (enthusiast) gaming department, I'm just unsure about the whole computer&laptop department. Microsoft sat on their asses for too long and with their heads hidden in the sand ( as did companies like Blackberry, Nokia, most record companies, etc).
But the fact stays that they are selling products (made by low wage workers in bad conditions, in factories working of coal power) at extremely inflated prices... For that price I'd at least expect the guys who made it to get a decent wage, for it to ( despite me hating ''green'') be made more eco friendly, not because I care that much, but to at least have something to justify the price.

Oh, and I also hate fashion in general :p.

tl:dr : I don't like to be told what to do (with anything I bought), I don't like inflated prices or paying for a brand. I can also see many positive aspects of Apple and their products.

It's better because it's easier and better for them to use. First you explain why someone might find the iPhone better, and then second question how someone could find the iPhone better. You answered your own question before you even asked it!

The problem is going to tech blogs looking for impartial journalism. They're bloggers. Not journalists.

I believe though that Dailytech sells itself on being a news site. If the BBC started having little mini-rants about a company part way through a news article i'd drop them like a stone too.

It's just that DT is stuck to the side of the Anandtech main page, so if you want one, you get the other. Personally i'd prefer it if the two separated, but then I don't think anyone would bother with DT.

People who refuse to accept that there's a middle ground annoy me the most. You should see the look on people's faces at Uni when you try to explain that you bought your iPhone for it's excellent interface, ease of use and fantastic app store. They look at me like i'm insane and still call me a sheep like it's all they know.

One of my friends even went from an iPhone 4 to an HTC Desire and an iPod Touch - yes, he'd carry around both devices all the time. What's the point in doing that?

Yeah, i'll happily correct my statement to say that the management side of Anandtech are all decent chaps, who write good reviews. But it doesn't stop the users being utter retards mind.

Someone finding it better doesn't make it better, raw informal specification and capabilities do.

No, they don't. If someone makes a phone with a 100Mhz CPU and 32MB of RAM, but for whatever reason it runs smoother and faster than all the other phones on the market, then why does it matter that the tech specs are inferior?

Hardware specifications are a means of producing a result and nothing else. Of couse you can compare specs between two products that run the same software, but when you're comparing across different platforms it's more-or-less meaningless.

I agree with this. I can't help but feel that HTC and Samsung only really have one weapon to use in the war against Apple: specs. Sure, they can trump the last iPhone with a greater CPU etc but in reality the user experience is no different. Apple understands this and I believe Microsoft do as well (since they set a relatively modest entry criteria to phone makers wanting to adopt WP7).

When Apple release spec upgrades, you get the impression that it's a well thought out decision based on serious usability studies. When most other companies do this, you get the sense that it's simply in an attempt to awe the market.

Well maybe they even out the number of mainstream journalists (Guardian and the BBC being prime examples) that are exceptionally pro Apple.:p

Unfortunately most journalists, especially tech journalists aren't impartial...

Because it fits in with what they do and how they work?

It's not an argument soullessly for iPhones etc, it's an argument for most technology. The other example is Windows Phone. Runs far smoother/faster on significantly slower hardware than Android on the same hardware.

I admit I like some of their products, I'd love an I-Pad and their OS is perfect for that. I cloud is great. But that doesn't make up for the fact that I hate macbooks especially, for the fact how rubbish the hardware is for the price.

Oddly you picked up on something that is generally not overpriced hardware... Have you compared MacBooks to comparable kit? Asus U31's, Sony Vaio Z's, Samsung Series 9's for example?

Not everyone just wants a piece of cheap plastic with a **** screen and some OMGWTF hardware inside which lasts about an hour before the battery dies, just because it's £500. I'd rather go for a well designed, stylish, slimmer, better screened device with the same OMGWTF hardware but able to run it for several hours easily...

Yep, the Lotus Elise and Ariel Atom... Rubbish sports cars, I'd rather have a land rover...

Yet top end HTC and Samsung devices are around £500... much the same price as iPhones. Again, not everyone goes for monti carlos and cheap things...

Yet every other hardware manufacturer does exactly the same.

Maybe he finds the Desire a better PHONE? Shock, horror!:p

He uses his phone as a phone and his iPod as a music player for example?

I doubt it!

For his wants...

Or he finds it nicer to hold, nicer to use, nicer to look at...

Not everyone wants an iPhone, not everyone doesn't have one because they don't like Apple or can't afford one... I'm sure you know that though!

After borrowing my mum's old Desire to use for some Android development for Uni work I actually quite like the design, and almost prefer it over the 4/4S. However, my mum definitely prefers iOS to Android (which she found clunky to use on the Desire, I doubt Sense helped with that either).

I don't understand why people are so eager to pigeon hole someone into a "Apple user" " "PC user" "iOs user" etc etc.

Am I the minority when it comes to my technological preference?

* I use a MACbook pro - for work and general ease of use and pretty hassle free experience.
* I use an Android phone, because I feel - for a phone - it offers me more than an iPhone can and I prefer the android OS for phones in general.
* I have an iPad, because I feel that android tablets aren't up to scratch. Hardware wise they are, but most of the apps aren't build with the tablet form factor in mind and I feel that the user experience on the iPad is much better optimised.

I base my techno buys based on my needs, more so than the logo on the front.

You have the same setup as me for similar reasons. I have picked what I think is the best device for my needs. The label is irrelevant - does it do what I want within budget is more important.
