What is the creepiest thing to have ever happened to you?

not quite so creepy but after my dad died in December I would get this strange feeling upstairs that someone was there, on the landing just by my parents room. It freaked me out so much that I used to run up as fast as I could and turn on all the lights :o after his funeral the feeling disappeared. I know it could be a sub conscious thing but I hadn't even thought about I as I had walked upstairs. It wasn't until I switched on the light that I noticed I didn't feel like I was being watched anymore.

My mum always warned me never to do a ouija board so I havent but didn't stop my dad from scaring me with ghost stories :p

I was staying at my great grandmothers house when I was in my early teens. It was one of those big old buildings, situated on a dis-used farm, and it had a loft filled with spiders and cobwebs and old furniture.

anyway, one day I felt a strange feeling in my stomach so I went to the bathroom and had a big dump and when I looked in the toilet bowl THERE WAS NOTHING THERE!

Its fascinating how that works isnt it! Nothing is gonna happen...its your *own* brain generating thoughts....to be done over by our own brains...annoying!

When I went trekking in the Himalayas we spent some nights in towns where the power was cut after 2200hrs like clockwork. So we are all lyin in our cots in this old wooden shack of a place in pitch darkness.

And then I come out with "I feel something". This one girl said "What do you mean?" I kept quiet for a bit and then said "Its...a presence of some sort, a cold feeling, like we arent the only ones here" 5 squeals from the girls and 5 ultra-bright LED flashlights flick on hahahaha! Bored groans from the blokes altho one of them did tell me to quit it.

when i was about 8 years old i was doing a number 2 in the bus station toilets while my mum waited outside, i noticed a small peep hole (not that i knew it was that) and decided to look, learning forward i looked through only to see a wrinkled eye looking straight back at me... promptly left and never mentioned it

That Ted story is pretty freaky - he really portrays the claustrophobia nicely - reminds me of the decent somewhat.

if anyones interested in more info about it:
It looks like its adapted (read copied wholesale) from a short story written a few years earlier that had a full ending:
http://web.archive.org/web/20050117173007/www.dougaustin.com/tlcaves/pdf/Thefearofdarkness.pdf Not read this version yet so can't comment on how much it ruins it...

I read it and:

Totally gutted at the ending, I take it there's not page after him talking about him seeing things, then seeing Joe and them deciding to enter the cave again the next day?

Incredible thread - can't believe I missed it first time around :)

I'm not ready to put my creepy experiences on paper/online yet - but one day :)

These stories are interesting but I can't help think that ghosts would be doing something else besides trolling people.

On second thoughts, that would be quite funny.

So... OcUK Most Haunted Ghost Meet 2011.... when and where? :)

Make it somewhere in the South West and I'm there, complete with torch and spare pants :p

Being someone who has always had a strong sense of the spiritual and following an extremely traumatic episode my family suffered in a holiday flat in Bournemouth many years previously...

Please expand on this and divulge to your now captivated audience :D

Awesome thread, something strange happened to me the other night although it was creepy it was more than just likely some sort of dream. I in my bed and it felt like I had just started to fall sleep when all of a sudden I heard very loud and clearly my name being called in my ear, it was a male voice, one I dont recall hearing before. I absolutely crapped a brick and I jumped up, as you would expect nobody there apart from my GF snoring away beside me (she doesnt sound like a dude either, so it wasnt her).

It was really freaky but more than likely a dream, maybe starting to dream before I had gotten in to a deep sleep.

Every now and again when i'm dozing off i'll hear a sound that seems to be completely real, yet I know that it's just me imagining it. It's weird thinking how the brain starts switching off noticing the outside world and starts making up it's own stuff, only for something it's created to snap you back to the real world because it's so realistic :p

Got woke up by extremely loud banging and shouting a while back (think it was in January) in our new house. I was still in a half hazy dream state as it was a weird time like 4am - but i completely bricked it and stayed nailed to my bed (who wants to confront what sounded like a group of armed thugs breaking and entering). After a while the shouting died off. No sign of a break in the following day, no neighbours with any signs of a disturbance either .

Told my housemate about it and he had also heard it and hid under his covers. Very strange, not sure what it was, we rent the house, don't know why the owners moved out but a lot of their personal stuff is still in the garage like they just up and left one day, can't help wonder if something horrific happened there in the past and it was somehow 'replaying' to us as a haunting!

When I was roughly 8 or 9 my family moved house. When we were decorating we stripped the wallpaper and undernearth were all sorts of bible passages written on the walls in crayon. I find that a bit creepy.

Been reading through and enjoying the thread!

Got a fair few myself but for just plain weird it has to be one from about 5 years ago.

Near myself in Northumberland there's a small town called Stannington. The place is famous locally for pretty much one thing, the fact that it's home to a massive abandoned mental hospital.
I'd been there mooching about a few times and was amazed by the size of the place, and the fact that some of the rooms (viewed through windows) looked to have simply been abandoned without any attempts made to clear them out. Beds were still there, wheelchairs, drawers, desks etc.
Anyways, one night was out with a couple of my friends and one of them suggested we go there as he'd never been. We grabbed a couple of torches and headed up there in the car.
Going in the back entrance (oh matron!) as there was security at the main gate, we had to head up a quarter of a mile of tree lined path overlooked by accomodation huts.
Considering the place was pitch black, this was a pretty darn creepy experience anyway as the whole time i was expecting to see a face peering out from one of the windows. Alas, nothing. It was only when we'd passed the last of the huts that one of my friends put his hands out and stopped the other two of us. He then pointed at the edge of the path about 50m away.
What I saw was a white shape move from right to left across the path. Roughly at the mid way point it seemed to stop for a second and turn its 'head' towards us and then continue moving.
What really got me at that point though was not the sight of this thing, but the feeling that it put through me. It was just one of absolute irrational terror. It passed about 2 seconds after the thing moved past the treeline at which point i realised both of my mates had bolted it back to the car leaving me still standing there!
We didn't really mention it for quite a while afterwards but the hospital came up in conversation because it was getting demolished. I ended up asking my friends what they felt that day and what they thought had happened. One of them simply refused to talk about it and the other said exactly what i felt, that he was utterly and irrationally terrified.

I don't know if it's a benefit of over-exposure to the subject but I now seem to be totally numb to any scares. I'll happily read about disembodied arms grabbing people, freaky poltergeist activity and pretty much anything else - even before bed-time - and I don't even bat an eyelid.

I wouldn't mind a first-hand encounter!
