what is there to do on ps3?

Terrible AI, poor graphics, modelling errors, poor texture wraps, poor music, uninspiring level design, even less inspiring character design.

Yes, the story is decent, but that's about it. Everything else is about as generic as they come, a first-person by numbers if you will.

Do you design computer games for a living or do you study it at university? (cant remember which). I am fairly sure 99% of people who buy the game will not care about things like "poor texture wraps" and "modelling errors". Granted it may be something they teach you to avoid at university, but I suspect most people who buy the game do not study game design etc at university or design games etc.

I like this game, multiplayer a lot. The storyline for 1p mode is good, but I must admit I have been stuck on Manchester (I think) about a month ago and I have not tried the 1 player mode since!!

which version of MAME have you got on it? I've been trying to get SDLMAME running, last part of the compile goes hay-wire, think it can't find some SDL libs on mine.

Which Linux version have you installed? I like the idea of messing around with MAME. I have a MAC and I think I have used this sdlmame on their (not very user friendly compared to windows versions)

For sure.

Most nights when I logon I am the only one online playing a game!! Everyone else is Folding@Home !!

I think a lot of people just leave it on folding when they are not playing tbh.

I had been holding off getting a next gen console to see how it panned out, I finally decided to get a xbox 360. This is coming from a Playstation fanboy - I owned PS1, PS2, PSP all were great. But looking at the current games and games due out there wasn't anything on the PS3 that looked "wow", plus these days games come out on both consoles more often than not - on he PS2 GTA, Pro Evo and Gran Turismo were all big decision makers for me, but now the xbox has GTA coming out, Pro Evo and Forza which looks better than Gran Turismo anyway.

Maybe in 2-3 years when the price of the PS3 has dropped, and they finally have some decent games i'll get one - but until then i'm happy with the 360.

Out of curiosity do you keep getting the 'disconnected from access point' pop up when you're disconnected.

Mine won't work on my wireless network, but works fine on my mates.. definately the hardware, and it's driving me loopy.

seems to me your profession is ruining your hobby, yes accepted it ain't the best looking game but the day one of the main faults you find with a game is ' modelling errors ' is a sad day indeed. It plays well enough and it is enjoyable, enjoyment from gameplay and not from correctly modelled characters well I never !
The character modelling is fine, it's the environmental errors. It wreaks of a rushed title.

I agree, what I do most definitely does affect my views on a game, I am an environmental artist (currently unemployed - just finished university) so I notice errors a mile off. Some problems aren't so bad, but the ones in Resistance are definitely some of the most lazy I have ever seen.

From a graphical perspective it's definitely below average, low resolution textures which are bland beyond belief. They are rarely crisp and dont' appear to have gone through filters prior to being put in engine. Some textures aren't out of place on sixth-generation.

A good comparison would be Resident Evil 4 on the Gamecube which I have the fantastic honour of playing through for the first time now and it's got some of the best graphics and texturing I have ever seen (obviously taking into consideration its age and format), the quality of modelling and texturing completely leaves Resistance standing.

From an artists point of view as well Gears of War is THE masterpiece, it's the game that we've (as a general consensus of artists in game) been waiting for with some perfect (and that's a word I have never used before) textures and some incredible character design.

Half-Life is the one game that made me want to be a games designer, Gears of War is the one that makes me want to be the best.

No, just it keeps saying "Signed In" every 5 minutes in the top right corner.

Mines being used more for BR playback at the moment, just ordered Planet Earth - Complete Box Set which is supposed to be stunning. Buying the PS3 I knew their wasn't that many quality games available but using as a BR player has more than made up for it, so I'm a happy bunny

You won't be dissapointed.. I have Planet Earth on HD-DVD, and it's superb..

It does still leave me in a dilema at the moment as BR disks are a bit more expensive, but the PS3 due to the novely factor at the moment is in the front room feeding the 1080p LCD and projector, so I'm going to have to fork out a fraction extra just to save me carting my 360 from the study if I want to watch a HD film...

I have seen a bit of this (I bought the Blu-Ray but I've lent it to a mate who is into his animal documentaries) and it is very good. Only saw about 10-15 mins of epsiode 1 but it is very impressive visually. Picture quality is pretty amazing, puts a couple of blu-rays I got in the shade.

Have a look at the above list if you want to see which ones are better in terms of Picture Quality. Planet Earth is quite high up there.

cant believe you huys waste so much money on buying films that will only be watched once or twice, yes thay are amazing quality but i prefer my movies being of decent dvd quality and "free" if you know what i mean, i may invest in a 500GB external seagate drive since its £80 delivered from somewhere but to encode the movies so they can be watched on my ps3 would take an age even on my e6600 at 3.6GHZ with 4GB of ram

This is the problem with society. Those who steal can never understand why those who don't, don't :D

p.s. I only buy things I know I will watch multiple times, and usually after I have seen them once already.
