What is white privilege?

How do expect to have a serious and constructive discussion about how to deal with racism if you're just lying and trying to create division by assigning a position to her that is untrue and acts like a dog whistle to racists?

Doesn't seem to have attracted anyone's attention except yours...

According to the information the cops typed in a wrong number of her registration and stopped her. Once the issue was noticed she was allowed to continue on her way.

This wasn't a stop and search. It is highly possible the cops didn't know what race the person was when they first set off after the car.

But Dawn Butler is claiming its because shes black.

A fair point that she raised is why was a car registered in Yorkshire stopped just because it's in London?

Even if we take into account the Met's explanation that the registration was entered incorrectly, there doesn't appear to be any valid reason for the stop.

From watching the video it seemed like she just couldn't wait to show the world how horrible and racist our police are without even asking why they were stopped. This just seems an incredibly irresponsible way for an MP to behave.

Because the car would have almost certainly come up the wrong make and colour.

That does sound completely reasonable, but why haven't the Met stated that the car was stopped because it appeared to be on false plates, and would have cleared it all up from the very outset?

Because it's a bit more accusatory to say that, when the reality was, they keyed in the wrong number plate.

It could just have been an error in transferring private plates for example.

Why did they even check the car?

Who knows.

Driver was white by the way, not black so seriously doubt there was any racial profiling going on in this instance.

Is there any proof of this? I've heard this been thrown around a lot in the last 24 hours and apparently there's a longer video but I can't see it or seen any screenshots. Also, Dawn has clearly stated the driver was black.

My initial thoughts on this story was that it was yet another eager victim trying to score points. But thinking about this one further I'm just not sure why they would want to stop the car. I understand the police said they entered the registration incorrectly and based on what came back they decided to stop the car. But why did they enter that registration? It wasn't a part of an ANPR check because the number plat would not be wrong if it was automated. So an officer decided to check on them. But why? What was the reason they felt the need to check someone's registration?

LBC radio yesterday said the rumour the driver was white was not correct. They stated the driver was definitely black.

Yes, I read the same thing and believed it, until I saw the video above.

Clearly the driver is a white male.

And in case it was edited, I checked out some other sites (Telegraph) who have mirrored the video, but you still see the driver for a brief few second around the 32 second mark

She needs to be reported to Parliamentary Standards over that.

I've been stopped for that reason before when on holiday, for being out of the area.

If my registration was wrongly entered in the database and it came back as a different make and model of car then I'd expect them to pull me over.

The problem with these type of stories is they are taken out of context.

Years ago in my 20s I was sat in my car on a pub car park talking to a friend in the passenger seat. About 20 minutes later a cop car pulls in to the parking area and pulls up next to me. Asking what we were doing. I said we're just chatting and finishing our coke/pepsi drink and we'll be off. It's obvious they suspected us of doing something illegal, maybe drug dealing. But if that was 2 black people it seems people like Dawn would immediately assume it was because they were black.

Whilst the lockdown was in effect, I did not use my car in the Cotswolds where my girlfriend lives as it was registered to my home in Essex. I did so to avoid any issues with the police as I would have expected a pull.

So a car registered in Yorkshire and being driven in London would flag suspicions I would have thought.
