What is 'woke' and why do we use it?

It’s the core belief system of US identity politics where everything nominally Christian, heterosexual, Caucasian and politically conservative is the cause of all the world’s evils and must be erased.

What?? I think you need to proof read that.... Or are you saying Democratic identity politics in the US blame Chritian, heterosexual,Caucasian and politically conservative for all the ills? Not sure what you are implying there. :)

Using a perfect tense singular verb (and a lazy one at that) as an adjective (or is it a noun?) makes my brain itch.

As for the general awareness and empathy it alludes to (in my head anyway) I can see it as being a positive thing.

Self-awareness though should never be weaponised by either side, it’s just lazy.

Amen.

I think the term has lost any meaning as it's used for all sorts of reasons, in all sorts of contexts for things people don't like.

Wouldn't be surprised if at some point people get called woke because they complain that they shouldn't get mugged in a street.

To me the definition of 'woke' is people demanding preferential treatment rather than asking for fair and equal treatment. To demand "equality of outcome" rather than "equality of opportunity".

Equity rather than equality is the goal of the 'woke'. It's the mindset of tyrants who pretend to be doing it for reasons of virtue to make themselves look good when in actuallty they're olnly doing it as a means of cementing their authority. After all if you aren't going to treat people equally then power lies with those who decide which groups are more equal than others.

The right wing media in the UK grudgingly had to accept that telling people the country is ****ed because of the EU (rather than because of the Conservative government that has been running the country into the ground for 13 years) wasn't really going to wash any more...they needed a new bogeyman to help sell papers and get clicks, some enemy to tell all their victims readers they are under attack from....

So now the headlines are that the country is ****ed because of woke (rather than because of the Conservative government that has been running the country into the ground for 13 years).

Seeing as the left can’t be funny can someone remind me of all the awesome conservative comedians ?
I wouldn't say it's a left or right thing.

Woke people in my experience tend not to be down to earth. They don't want to acknowledge reality, and it's limitations, so they struggle to find a workable solution.

I think we have woke thinking because people today live more in their own heads via the Internet.

Another way to look at it is that the British public got fed up with the EU and binned it and now they are turning on the woke to bin that too - perfectly reasonable if something doesn't work.

I think the world is bored. Nothing much is happening in the world, so people have time to worry about nothing. Social media is also giving people more exposure and a platform to spout their drivel and scream about entitlements.

We need a hard reset.

Stay sleeping sweetheart. Never wake, never submit to others reality. Woke is the hurt of all others pain. Who needs that.

I would much prefer it when people take some responsibility for themselves rather than blame anyone else for their failings.

Whatever side of the political spectrum you are on, that is irrelevant.

I'd say voting to leave the EU is taking responsibility for yourself.

How do you react to those that continually blame 'the tories' for everything, as seen on virtually every whinge thread on here. :D
