What is your best photo you have taken in 2013 and why?

It's been a very quiet photography year for me. I've been stuck at my desk thesis writing for most of the year, so I think this is my favourite shot simply because it's from my first photo jaunt after handing in and it felt great just to be out with the camera without an accompanying feeling of guilt

Brilliant shot, Could I be cheeky and ask for the photo in its original resolution/a higher resolution?

It would be used as a wallpaper on my home desktop. I wouldn't be sharing it, displaying it publicly or benefiting from it in any way other than having a nice background. I'll even shove your name in the corner so anyone who sees the wallpaper can find you on deviantart. :)

If you don't have it to hand or it would create any kind of hassle, don't worry about it.

Nice thread and shots :)

I'm not sure if I can find a shot of the year, I've done so little. Deciding last Christmas that I'd stop shooting weddings appeared to have a subconscious impact in that I pretty much stopped photography totally! That and piling on the pounds and getting unfitter than ever so that I didn't even get out much. These are things that I intend to change next year :)

Nicely done RL. I've seen it done a few times and plan on giving it a go myself at some point and perhaps try and add a twist to it somewhere.
Btw, I think it would work even better in B&W. :)

Thanks RP, I've got other ideas too but no doubt you know how difficult it is sometimes to get everything perfect from location, to weather to the couple in order to get something you got in mind become reality.

Natural phenomenon is the most challenging to photograph because it's not just about timing, you have to be on the game with 110% attention else it's gone. For me, with that in mind, I'd pick one of the Northern Lights photos from Finland's wedding shoot. We had the time, the location and the luck and I managed to get the kind of shot I'd spent years admiring online but only dreaming of taking myself.

It was sheer luck that I had the camera set up with the ice chapel and hill framing that opening and the Aurora just happened to emerge in that opening and sprawl across the frame.

A once in a lifetime shot for me.

Given I've only recently taken up photography and I've taken a lot of pictures in the past year I found it quite hard to whittle down my personal favourite.

In the end I opted for this:

And the reasoning behind my choice is the fact I left my house with a picture in my mind of the exact shot I was after.

Several hours later I'd achieved exactly the result I was after :)

This is Edinburgh right ? Connects the building next to the omni centre with the the one that near the err Thistle Hotel. I've been under it a million times. I used to live on Junction Street and even now I get the 44 in to town and it goes under this bridge

Too hard to choose to be honest. I'd probably pick either a street one or one from my fiancé's graduation.

Theres something about doing everything manually that makes getting a nice shot so much more rewarding.

It's been a pretty slack year for me on the photography side of things but this is my favourite not because of the shot itself but what it represents.

This colliery was where my father retired from in 2001 and it was a job that he loved.

He was with me when I took this shot which also happened to be the last time I went out anywhere on foot with him as 2 weeks later he had a bad stroke and is now wheelchair bound.

Yes you're quite right - it's the Leith Street pedestrian bridge :)

I haven't taken much this year so not a huge amount to choose from..

It's not the best picture in the world, but I cycle to work every morning and just occassionally it is like this when I go round the lake, but I never have my camera with me and regret it. One morning I just decided to go back home to pick up my camera and be late for work.. (I still took the wrong lens with me so I didn't get all the shots I wanted, but I quite like this one)

This one is my favourite. It's actually from a set back in June. The reason behind it is that I REALLY liked the dark and moody lighting in the pub, but also because the rest of the set from outside the pub was used in a charity calendar, supporting a lad in Oswestry that has non Hodgkin's lymphoma.

I have to many to choose from my trip to Africa.

Seeing elephants at Lake Kariba in Zimbabwe was very special. This was taken while on a tender boat, I was staying on a hose boat, and a group of elephants were busy eating the grass.
They would pull the grass out with their trunks and then wash the mud off in the water.

For me it's got to be this, taken from the mast at Tebay near the M6. They can be long boring days staring into the distance waiting (praying..) for something to hopefully appear. Sometimes you'll see nothing and go home empty handed. Other days you can be there from 8.30am to 6pm and just when you're thinking it's time to pack up, the day is over, this fella shows up at 6:06pm. You get rewarded and can go home with a smile on your face!

Next year I am definitely going to make the trip! I'll let you all know the day so you can avoid it, as obviously no aircraft will appear that day :D
