Spent 715 on my 2080 on release then 800 on a 2080s , wouldn't 3ver pay a penny more , my previous flagships were a 980ti ref for 500 and a 780ti for 515 , wouldnt pay over 750 now, thats far to much for a single GPU even top tier. Prices are a joke right now

I guess it can vary but in my experience you should never expect any electronics device you buy to last much more than 5 years regardless of how much you spend! Beyond that time frame there's a very high chance whatever you've bought will either fail or become obsolete.

If you're buying something with the assumption it will last longer you're setting yourself up for disappointment IMO!

PC gaming is my main hobby. As such I never consider value for money when it comes to these purchases. If I can afford it, all I’ll consider is, “what extra enjoyment will it bring me?”

Life’s too short and you can’t take anything with you once you’re gone :D

1k to 2k is a lot to spend on a GPU but I don't drink or smoke. Gaming is my favourite hobby and it's only a purchase once every 1.5/2yrs if these long spans continue between releases so I can justify it.

Absolutely, spend your money on whatever makes you happy. I'm just saying be mindful of how much you spend and how long you think it will last.

Also, you may someday want to retire and buying £1000+ GPUs might put that date further into the future than you'd like it to be!

No limit but it depends just how good something is. I won't be interested in just a little more than the next model down for 2x the price for example. Last time I went with only 2080 expecting next gen to make a much larger jump so am/was intending to buy 3080 Ti this time. But if they bring something more extreme but still aimed at gamers I might be tempted. However, ideally < £2k.
Hardly gaming atm so there's a chance I may hold out for a while. If I can get away with skipping next gen I would but I suspect the new GPU's will be too tempting.

Anything more than £500-600 on a GPU is absolute bonkers as far I am concerned. Furthermore, there are significant diminishing returns past this price point. I was fairly pleased with my RTX 2080 (copped for £560, especially since RRP is much higher), however, my typical GPU would only cost £200-250 max! Examples include the 8800 GTS, AMD 6950, GTX 970 etc.

I said I'd never spend silly money on a single component. My 980ti has served me well the last 4 or 5 years, but it has only just ran games at acceptable frames at 3440x1440. Providing my (and I can't believe I'm saying this, as it's a cracking CPU) 8700k doesn't bottleneck it, I can see me going nuts and getting a 3080ti or 3090 thanks to FS2020 in particular. If I do get one then this pc won't be being upgraded (apart from adding another 16gb Ram perhaps) for a LONG time.

Based on the results, I'm at the upper end of the silly money brigade.

The only thing that drives that is VR. I'll be building a new system to support VR, and I suspect the graphics card will cost more than the rest of the system.

Prepared to pay up to £1500, however if that means a 3080ti/3090 vs an £800 3080 with only 15-20% performance uplift then I'll get the cheaper card and just upgrade sooner.

I just want to be able to run my games at my 144hz refresh rate at 3440x1440, which my 2070 super simply cannot do.
