What "man jobs" have you done today?

Weeded and de-grassed an overgrown border, tough going to dig up everything and remove the grassroots. Edged the lawn too.

The new BBQ extension brick concrete is drying nicely.

Measured up (multiple times) to cut and lay a sub-terrainian cable. It's an armoured cable that will carry 12V from the PSU in the garage to a water proof connector box on the pier in the centre of the garden. It means once sorted, all I'll need todo is attach the scope and connect the power and away I go.
Only fly in the ointment i that next-door is a nurse currently on night shift so waiting until a better time to take the SDS drill to the peir and it's got enough light to be safe.

Changed the front door lock to use a split-spindle (not pictured). Only taken me 5 years to get around to doing it :p Previously accessible from the outside without a key if not double locked. No more.

Found out that if you wash your shower screen with persil (clothes detergent) it gets rid of the scum on the window :)

Pretty amazed how clean they are now.

been digging out roots from an old hedge.

planning on building a new fence, panels, posts and post concrete arrived yesterday just waiting on the post hole digger arriving today hopefully.

when we moved in last year back garden looks to have been the bin overflow and had been left to go wild. ( I think that way it hid there rubbish ) never got much time on the garden last year as moved in late in the year and the house was main priority.

I took the hedge down put up a temporary fence to keep the dog in. after that I just tidied it up as best as I could got rid of the rubbish and cut the grass.

this years plans are new fence, slabbed area for garden table and seats, raised bed that the the wife wants and tidy up the ground around the shed either slabs or stones.

I've been tempted to use Car-Lack (Similar to RainX) on mine but I'm not sure how durable it would be against the heat and soaps etc.

After recently buying a steam cleaner, I steamed shower (used some filtered lemon juice with ionised water from dehumidifier to prevent water marks) and then once dry I cleaned with Autoglym glass polish and then treated with RainEx – looks brilliant and lasts a few months for sure (still need to wipe down after each use though but we use a microfibre cloth for that and takes 20 seconds).

Spent that morning laying the 12V armoured cable 30+ cm under the lawn, path and into the garage. Drilling big holes - even used the entire 16mm x 46cm SDS bit right to the end of it!.

I ache lol.

Just massacred the noses of the stairs with a reciprocating saw and chisel ready for installing hardwood.

Currently at the "what the hell have I done?" stage... :( :p

Currently wallpapering the lounge/diner.

Massive job as we are having to take the old paper off bit by bit as it has been painted over twice (once by us I'll admit). Needs the hot air gun* to soften the top layer so it peels off in greater than finger sized strips. Then soak the backing paper and scrape off, followed by the fresh paper when dry. Due to the amount of furniture to move we are stripping and papering as we go, just leaving a buffer zone between the old and new areas.

It has actually turned into quite the efficient "high output" exercise! Hoping to finish by next weekend as 3 x 12 hour shifts get in the way next M/T/W that is barring any unforeseen hitches.

* Steaming not an option as the plaster is in such carp condition it will likely lift off as it did when we tried that upstairs.

Ta, good to know it won't be a wasted effort :)

We use a window squeegee thingy religiously after every shower (you know, the thing window cleaners use). It seems to prevent any water marks or build up of crap. Less effort than scrubbing the screen occasionally.

My new neighbour is pulling fence apart - They are joint fences and this was only put in a few years ago -

The level his side was lower than ours and he is paving it - so by time he dug down all he would see after he chopped out his concrete path would be cut concrete and dirt.

So every thing is coming out - bricks and concrete down to his level then he is putting grave boards back in.

Won't be much difference in looks our side so said carry on -

He has worked like a trojan.

He had a bit of luck as Farmer up road wanted all broken concrete so left a big bucket on his lawn - Along with a near 5 ton skip the Farmer has had three buckets to my knowledge.
Suppose I can paint panels now - surprising how water gets them isn't it - I spaced panels off bricks by inch and trellis by half inch but there is still rot on them

Cool I like the window above the stairs makes it look spacious.

Out of interest what square metre/footage has been converted to deliver how many rooms? And if it's OK - an estimated cost to get it to that point (e.g. excluding bathroom suits, carpets, etc)
