My way, I decide on height of switch/socket, use level to draw straight line, place dry lining box on the line, draw around the box.
Then run around the edge of the box marking with a Hacking knife or Stanley Knife & straight edge to score plasterboard, then finish off by cutting out opening with pad saw just inside scored line.

Score with Stanley knife sounds good. Will bear in mind for next time, thanks.

How's that worked for you? Been considering renting such a device from my local Homebase, as with a baby running around throwing stuff everywhere our carpets are in need of a freshen up.

Yes it's very good, buy more cleaning fluid with it as the one i got for £14.99 says you can do four rooms, but i mangaged two, although they were grubby carpets ,and my living room floor is bigger than most i guess.24hr hire £47.99 inc that £14.99 cleaner and £10 deposit which you get back if you take machine back clean.:)
