What "man jobs" have you done today?

Last few weekends I've been replacing the old decking in the back garden.

Decking looks great. But, if I may, how did you put the steps together for your french doors. I have a similar drop and need to make something just like those, currently I have some breeze blocks I had left over functioning as makeshift steps, which aren't exactly the aesthetic I'm going for :p :D

week before last I Processed 52 cubic meters of firewood (2 artic lorry loads) over 3 days and hand stacked around 20 cubic meters into a shed, on the moday and tuesday night after work.

A lot of work but that's our heating sorted for the next 12 months.

what have you done with the other 32 cube?!

Got a gap in my kitchen. I think the previous owner may have had a dishwasher in here? I've been using it for my bin but thats a bit of a waste of the space.

The whole kitchen is getting replaced soon (as soon as I find the time - replacement is sitting in my garage ready to go) so I dont want to spend any money on it. I've got an old bookcase though, so I can do something with this

Cut it up and made it into a little kitchen unit! :D

Fits perfectly into the gap

Re-enforcing, sanding, filling and painting the staircase at the moment plus refinishing the oak rails that were caked in crud. What a job that is.

Can't wait for it to be finished, and the carpet\runner down.

what have you done with the other 32 cube?!

Piled it up in a heap inside a larger shed (tipped out of trailer and pushed up with tractor's loader).

Last nights job was moving around 40 2x8" 15ft long timbers (wet and heavy) up in the shed ready to start creating a loft floor, my shoulder aches a tad today.

Moved a load of logs

Was running low and the weather is defo getting colder

So ordered a log delivery, which came last night but was too dark to start shifting round the back

Light of day revealed

which seemed about what I was expecting, then, pulling the Visqueen back i though "hmmm, seems quite a bit"

And plodded on ..........

Double stacked the store

And single stacked (as last time) the store extension - big mistake - 10 wheelbarrows in it was obviously not going to fit..........

Pulled down the great log wall annexing the store and double stacked that too

And it kept coming and coming and coming

Anyway 25 wheelbarrows later

The store extension had to be extended onto the patio otherwise I would have had timber over the dining room window and an earful from Mrs TB

So I now have plenty of wood :p

And about 2 -3 wheelbarrows of kindling / small splits which were dragged into the garage until needed

I haven't done my man job today yet, but have just bought some curtains and an extendable pole and will have a go at putting it up as my new cordless drill hasn't seen much action. Don't really know what I'm doing but it can't be that hard. What could possibly go wrong :p

Ha ha - I'll get another load :p

Yep all very dry - not had the moisture meter on it yet but feels and sounds very dry. All the back end of last years stock so well seasoned :)

You can come stack my next load if you fancy, i'll let you keep a barrow load :p Just ordered another 50 cubic meters, wont turn up for a couple of weeks due to the WRC though.

Hopefully I'll get some pictures processing it this time.

Your pole has hoops yet your curtains appear to be hoopless type that slot straight on pole?!

That is standard, it just means he doesn't need to use the hoops on the pole :)

What could go wrong though is if the Lintel is a good one, for example I have had to fix my curtain rails to the wooden window frames as a normal drill will not allow me to mount them to the wall as it just wont make a dent!

The temperature button on my Bristan shower had got stuck in the pressed in position so I removed the end screw, removed the cap, and cleaned with limescale cleaner and sprayed WD40 onto the spring and gubbins inside. Now working fine again.

Yesterday fitted an oak beam onto my dinning room/lounge fireplace as a mantel:

The beam, and the fireplace (previously removed a marble fireplace/hearth which had a fitted electric fire. Was ugly)

Cut away a bit more plasterboard, rearranged the studwork, and drilled some 10mm holes in the brickwork of the arch):

After measuring out a template against the holes in the fireplace, drilled 4 holes in my beam, glued (polyurethane) and screwed in 4 10mm threaded rods, cut down to approx 230mm:

And then, with fingers crossed that it all lined up, mounted the beam with threaded rods going through the holes in the fireplace. Lump hammer came in handy at this stage. Then screwed washers and nuts to the threaded rods where they protruded inside the fireplace. Job done:

Fireplace will, ultimately, be plasterboarded inside and out to cover up the messy brickwork. We're sticking an electric log burner in there (have a real log burner in the living room).

And today, taking up the floor tiles

Start of job:

6 hours later:

56 tiles done, another 118 to go. Bit of a nightmare of a job, to be honest. The tiles come up easy enough with the SDS chisel, but getting the cement up off the concrete floor is a right pain. More so in some areas (near the fireplace  ) than others - was getting the friendlier tiles done in about 5 minutes each, the difficults ones were about 15 minutes each.
