What "man jobs" have you done today?

I think the biggest trick here is to know what is readily available off the shelf. If you measure the height of your panel and it is 530mm high or smaller then you can easily grab one off the shelf. Anything over 530mm tall for a p shaped bath and you are going to find it impossible to source one, unless of course you can track down the original supplier.

I paid £57 to buy a 530mm one off the shelf which if it was 50mm taller would have been a perfect fit but I couldn't find a nice way to adapt that one for my needs without destroying it in the process. If your looking for something less rustic you could build the frame from wood and then get some thin marine ply and bend it around the frame. That's the best way I can think of getting a smooth finish to the panel. Overall though I would recommend giving it a go if you have a load of reclaimed wood lying about and a jigsaw. It really isn't that difficult a job :)

Had my daughter born at the start of last month so not had much money or time. I picked up some cheap shelving from B&Q (the galvanized one)on their bank holiday offer down to £20 from £35. So i put that up and tidied half of the shed as well as squaring up the door frame as it had gone a bit wonky after the shed settled.

And whilst tidying i found my can of marking paint to I marked out where i want to put a little fence along the back of the garden just to section off the grassed area from where i put all my junk. And you can see the patch where a large pile of mud was which i've now moved to the back of the garden until i've finished clearing it so i can hire a big skip.

My little project is coming along.

Further back I put picture of my log splitter - it turned out I underestimated how many logs I was going to split - I now have a bad knee due to pumping the bottle jack up - So got a 20 ton air/manual bottle jack and have now got it mounted in splitter - One thing I didn't factor in was how powerful my air compresser is - Not powerful enough.

If I could have found a 8 ton jack or 12 ton jack it would have been OK - The 12 ton one was twice price of 20 ton.

This is it in mock up stage - got to be taken apart and bit's welded and painted but it does work - although jack looks off center it is bolted flat like old one so will look at that later.

Next thing is to replace air hose and fittings for higher flow ones but it won't help much without more air being pumped.

We bought a new American fridge freezer and needed plumbing in. As a complete novice I thought what better way to learn a little bit of plumbing. The Hep2o system is fantastic!

Just waiting for some clips to arrive so the filter will be completely secured without just hanging by the tubing.

The quality of pipework under the sink done by the builders is shocking and tempted to tidy everything up one weekend.

Yeah, it's just a load of 2 inch strips of ply glued/clamped together, then planed/sanded and then I rounded over the edges with the router. Legs are nothing special, but I got to use my kreg pocket hole jig for the first time, very impressed with it. I really like the look of the edge grain of ply.

Been in our new house just over three weeks and a LOT of work needs doing to it (but that's another thread) but job 1 was / is a log burner in the lounge.

So with the builders coming Today I had the weekend to prep the lounge which first off meant clearing the whole room including this rather cumbersome dresser ....

Once cleared the loverly brown carpet needed lifting. Given the size if it (and I have to get it to the tip) and the fact its not going back down I cut the carpet into quarters with a strong knife

Under the carpet was the inevitable gripper rod and ply lining which was nailed to the boards underneath - all needed ripping up and breaking into pieces which would fit in the car

Almost there

And back to the original floor boards which we are thinking about sanding, varnishing and putting a large rug over

Please forgive the decor, lighting, curtains / pelmets they're all going ! .....

:p

Got the log splitter set up - had a few leaks from unions on top of tank but amazing what a load of PTFE tape can do.

No more foot pumping or back aches from bending down
