What "man jobs" have you done today?

you could ask ?

The flue is natural draught, you cant have 90 bends in it anymore than a foot straight off the log burner..

I'm just stuck really because of the design of my house, this is the only way i could fit one with the least amount of disruption.. main thing is i'll be able to burn free fuel..

Was busy the last week with my new house:
  1. Curtain rails in 1 bedroom
  2. Had a new window installed professionally (i.e. aded a new window where there was non before)
  3. Repainted large boardroom, repainted window frame
  4. Built a couple of compost bins (3x4x4ft frame made of 2x4" wrapped in chicken mesh)
  5. blew a load of leaves in the back yard into the compost bins
  6. assembled a ton of IKEA furniture
  7. installed window blinds

Really the painting took forever, half a day prep and 4 days painting, 2 prime layers and 2 top layers.

Finished off taking out an almost 3 year old pull out larder that no longer works, its out of warranty (the nylon runners are worn out and cannot be replaced) - take heed if you are getting a Wickes kitchen with a pull out larder - cant fault the rest of the kitchen, but the pull out larder units only have a one year warranty. (get internal drawers - not as fancy but cheaper and far better)

I have fitted zero protrusion hinges to the doors and 6 Blum soft close internal drawers that I got off an auction site - much better - much more storage room, its actually cheaper than the original unit

I've been tiling and fitting this log burner, i pretty much do man jobs daily but this one is in my own home so thought id post it up.. cant wait to start using it, just need to finish bricking it up through the wall and add the rest of the flue on the outside..

I used to have a log burner but we removed it - to get the best out of it, have you considered a heat powered fan for it - they run off heat and circulate the air around the room.

Finished fitting all bar one kitchen unit carcass as part of my refit.

Yesterday was similar with added jamming the end of my thumb into my brand new power planer within 15 minutes of first using it. THE BLOOD....SO MUCH BLOOD. Ended up in triage at my local A&E at midnight because nothing I did would stop the bleeding.

Tomorrow/Tuesday will be cutting, routering and scribing the worktops. And hopefully no more blood.

Idiot!

Weren't you never taught to keep fingers clears of blades, cutters, etc & clamp the work securely.:(

34 years & I never had a accident like that, with any power tools.

Yeah, I was indeed taught to be careful, sensible and to use correct PPE from when I was an apprentice and would always make a point of being careful. I was a manual machinist/technician for 11 years and didn't hurt myself much more than the odd bruise or cut from jabbing myself with a sharp lathe tool. However, I'm now a desk jockey so perhaps lost my good hands on working practise through being idle.

With the planer, I'd just taken my finger off the trigger and the blade was spinning down from 16000 RPM when I passed the tool from my right to my left hand... with my thumb sticking in the way. :o

I almost passed out twice - once just after the event in my bathroom where my wife was panicking and trying to find a bandage, and again 8 hours later in triage when I removed my DIY dressing, saw rather a lot of blood and the nurse applied rather a lot of pressure to my thumb.

I doubt I'll do it again!

Apologies for the very poor phone pics, cannot get use to the camera on my phone :( Rom hopping has its downsides.

Tonight after dinner I stripped the hob & oven for a thorough clean, something the missus just hates. Also discovered the bulb in oven light blown, removed glass & cleaned & removed the bulb to remind me to buy a replacement. It was either that or watching the One Show!!

Worst job ever! I tried to clean ours, but there are some marks that nothing will shift. Even tried the really powerful stuff that you leave on for 30 mins and it did nothing.

Had someone out to measure up for new Front and Back doors.

Waiting for the written quote before we order, but already knew what we wanted on the front: (Rock Door Elite, Colonial, in Chartwell Green).

Back will be a high security white UPVC door, with a T-Bar style and frosted glass.

I built a log store yesterday as well.

Now I just need to get my chainsaw back from a mate and I can chop up all those logs that are littering my drive (brother in law works for the National Trust as a gardener so I liberated enough wood to half fill a transit from him).
