What "man jobs" have you done today?

Put some galvanised straps from joists in garage down walls - I looked at them and realised nothing was holding them down except the mortar slapped down between joist and top layer of brick's -- Should have realised couple of years ago when found my jerry built 1972 bungalow had no horizontal bracing - diagonal bracing or wall clips on any of the roof truss's - Only thing holding them in place was plaster board ceiling and roof lathes.

All done now though.

Nothing surprises me now, I've seen wall plates fixed in place with just 100mm screws.

Roding the pipe to the septic tank, lovely job! Should be putting my epic skip find workbench in the shed, meh. (2inch thick chipboard type stuff from a school science room, stupidly heavy and about 9ft long!)

Put together eldest boy's bunkbed, put up bedside shelf and wall-light, also put up wall-mounted light for youngest. Took down old shelving, filled and sanded down some holes in the wall that were left.

Think I might be allowed to call it a day now.

Spurred a socket into little bedroom that didn't have one and made a desk. It's a little functional but gives me somewhere quiet to work from home

Filled a skip up with old bathroom windows etc. Full of crud but amazing the amount of scrap men who have been through it already after metal. All safely tucked away though to be weighed in on Friday.

Hate those ***** scrap men parasites. I had bought a washing machine off Gumtree and had just got it out of the boot. As I went to make room in kitchen ready to carry it in, some ***** comes up the back yard asking if I want it took away.

At least they asked you. I don't have a problem when they knock on your door and ask. It's also useful when you want to get rid of an appliance and cba taking it to the scrap yard yourself for £5 or whatever you get.

I was surprised how much they can make after watching a documentary on it a few days ago. Some are making £300 or so a day!

Managed to burn out motor on my Clarke bench saw today cutting wood up for starting sticks - rather peeved as it's only 35 yrs old and bought new blade just 4 yrs ago.

Grrrr

I carved meat joints for tomorrows Sunday lunch.....that's manly :p

Oh and fixed my parents computer.......dust is not supposed to be covering everything inside.

Yesterday I re-felted the shed roof for the mother and hand balled about half a tonne of gravel onto a new raised platform I've made for her at the top of the garden. Will be where the shed and greenhouse will live from now on.

Word of warning to anyone doing roof felting, be careful with the bitchamin, wear gloves/very old clothes. Its a nightmare to get off, good job I had some alco-wipes to hand!

Today I just helped a friend out with some stuff they wanted moving to their new house!

Yesterday neighbour and I replaced 21 fence panels that were on way out - Lucky they were in concrete posts - Today I threw them over fence in to field and burnt them - just left with mound of hot ash at moment to be bagged up when cold. - get magnet out to make sure there are no nails left behind.

Good job done

Dave

built and put up an ikea coat hanger/shelf.

wasn't looking forward to it as the walls in this place just crumble and raw plugs just wall out. fortunately where this wall was originally external before the extension was put in it was all red brick and solid :D
