What "man jobs" have you done today?

Possibly... If the hatch isn't a massive issue just now (as in it's not broken) then I'd just wait until it's floored and then do the hatch and ladders at the end.

Alternatively you can do them separately... It is just a little extra work

I'm thinking same job but different days - if I don't have the larger hatch I won't be able to get the larger boards up. And damn, it goes from like 21 large boards to 84 smaller boards!

New issue has started to appear as well....... any thoughts? It is the porch right hand side...

Edit: as in there is no render on the other side and it is compared from rain. Directly above this wall is just a bedroom.

I used the 1200 long boards, didn't take too much to get them down but damn is it repetitive. Moving stuff up there today I wish that I had enlarged the loft hatch!

What is the condition of the damp proof course on the exterior side of the wall?

It could still be rising damp coming up on an internal wall.

Have you had any driving rain coming into the porch recently ?
Mental rain recently but I wouldn't say driving into the porch - as that's where the buggy is and that is dry.

I do get a big puddle of water with nowhere to go at the front of the house by the extension, but that is the other side of the house and no other sides of water elsewhere.

Check for any airbricks near that could allow water to seep or rush in during heavy downpours.
Some older places can suffer from this.

Dry from what I can tell. Someone suggested cold bridging?

There is one near but not sure it gets soaked...hmm..

I honestly don't think it's cold bridging producing that much moisture through a double (?) Solid (?) brick wall

The fact it seems to "radiate" out from the door frame area I'd look at the door frame and (if possible) lift a floorboard to see if it is wet under the floor (the brickwork)

As above any nearby airbricks (surprising how wet something can get from even a short spell of driving rain)

Also, "push" the wall in the damp area is it solid or is the plaster behind soft / have some give?

Looking at the house next door and yours it could be the block drive could be sitting close to the airbricks. Which could allow some water in and over a period of time it shows as the damp wall.

Me and my neighbour have had and he is still having issues due to low airbricks /high ground. Mine went through joists and a wall.

In your image there looks to be a horizontal line going across just where that mark stops and along to the other wall too. Possibly a previous repair, where they cut out the plasterboard and replaced it?

Also look at the wooden blocks of the floor where it meets the skirting board - I'm no expert but that looks like water/dampness damage to my untrained eye. Does it smell fousty or damp in that area? From it's location and spread it could be coming from a poorly sealing/bowed door/frame.

The previous owner probably gave the area a number of coats of Zinsser to hide it.

I see what you mean about that line (although had to zoom in). We do have a very tiny damp patch maybe an inch deep around a window, but I think that's why there was those strips originally, I don't think there's a leak, and I'm using a colour called chic shadow (primer grey :D ) so it's very sensitive to moisture.

Right lads, love you all to bits - thank you for commenting on my damp in the hall problem. However... major disaster earlier today. The neighbors got a less than professional bloke in to jet wash their side return. I thought I'd get a trickle through the garage but it has soaked the entire thing... absolutely fuming. Oh well, nothing I can do. Ironically I had been arranging my brother to come and help me cut an aco drain out.

Cue trip to Sains...no mops... Waitrose ... no mops... 1.5hrs later I find one. Luckily most stuff is on the blue shelves and I am crossing my fingers it hasn't hit the cardboard boxes on the left hand side.

I mopped up and then there was a massive downpour... and it leaked through again. I guess the soakaway for next door is now absolutely saturated... so I've had to bodge a beam which will probably cause me no end of grief to get back up (3x screws, and tons of plumbers gold!)

Should have kept my poxy cottage. Normal service hopefully resuming...

And my little ones out of childminders ill. Luckily Guinness was in stock!

Onwards and upwards...
