What "man jobs" have you done today?

Ha, maybe I over stated my creation somewhat!

I got a big off-cut of 20mm MDF, routed out the shape of my router base to 7mm, cut a hole where the cutter is, took the base off the router and countersunk holes for the 4mm bolts and then bolted the router to the base using the same bolts. Then used a thick length of PAR wood as a fence. Bodge!

Next step is to mill out two runs in the MDF and get some big wing-nuts and bolts so I can slide and bolt the fence into position rather than using my ratchet clamps. The whole lot goes on my workmate but I think making my own cabinet/frame would be good.

That's similar to what I have been using, although I just bolted some laminate flooring to the base of my router :D.

I have seen an insert plate made by Kreg which could be a good starting point for a more permanent solution. All the premade router tables seem to be a bit cheap and flimsy unless you pay silly money for one. There's a guy on Youtube called Matthias Wandel who makes all his own workshop machines, including a surface planer and bandsaw, so a decent router table should be possible.

Yesterday wallpapered feature wall in dining room, today finished flooring in there and built a floating shelf, also ran new ariel cable to the living room (original was removed during building work).

Cut down a big shrub thing in our front garden today. Didn't really plan to, but I was cutting the grass and noticed how hideously overgrown it had gotten. We don't use the front door at all so don't really notice. So I proceeded to start cutting it back as it was completely blocking the path. Then I ended up getting very carried away..

Unfortunately never got any 'before' pics. But this is what was left after cutting it all back:

Then after much digging and hacking of roots, I eventually won :)

And all tidy again

What was actually cut off.. a few trips to the tip required I think..

Never done anything like it before. Was sure hard work.

Man job today... have a lie in :p

Yesterday was spent in the garden butchering up some cheap decking which turned into...

The stain is nothing like it looked on the tub lol

Just vacuumed the whole house, scrubbed the bathroom top to bottom and mopped the kitchen floor. Sweating like a fat lass. Who needs a gym!

Spent the afternoon weighing down my poor car making several trips to the tip with heavy bagged and loose rubble from the old fence posts that were removed. There's still half a dozen bits of post left which I''ll take on wednesday.
Then I spent the rest of the time karate kicking 6 old fence panels in order to get them in the car on wednesday. Anyone want some firewood? :p

I did something similar last year. I thought it was an easy job....just pull up a shrub

I didn't realise how many and how thick the roots were. I ended up getting an axe to chop them up. Was real hard work, much harder than I expected so I sympathise

I know, the roots were pretty manly! I borrowed my dad's shovel which has a nice sharp edge to it so it did the job reasonably well. I thought I'd ache this morning but I was fine though!

Pic from last Sunday's work on my place. Installed a new RSJ into the space between the kitchen and dining area. No more bouncy floors above in the bedrooms now. How the previous owners got away without having one when they took the wall out is beyond me!

Nice to have a solid feeling floor above now :)

Completed on a house last week so spent the weekend clearing the garden, 2 van fulls of rubbish removed. Going to remove the wonkey shed this weekend then begin the work inside the house.

That's some good clearance effort. The garden always looks easier than it turns out to be, particularly when clearing it. Fun planting stuff you want in there though.

been decorating the front room/kitchen area of our apartment today and yesterday.

tiled around the kitchen and painted everywhere else.

shall put some pics up when i get the grouting done.

Spent the day cleaning the garage.. giving it a hoover and then gluing a couple of boards together.. they'll replace some of the gate timbers..

I feel that house DIY is like being in purgatory; the finish line is never really in sight and as soon as you think you're getting there, another job rears its head!

Quite satisfying though really ;).
