What "man jobs" have you done today?

Picked up this old Arcade cabinet and ordered the joystick and buttons for it in November 2013. Ten years later I made a start on it!

Pretty much finished work in the extension now. Started digging the foundations on the 17th April and just had building control sign off so I’m quite pleased with myself!

I’ve done everything myself and saved at least 20k compared to the quotes we had for it

Nice work. Big old extension that, good excuse to buy a bigger Tele

@vail3r very impressive!

You must be very pleased with that :)

I am pretty pleased and saved a whole lot.

All my friends keep asking what I’m going to do when it’s all finished and saying I should become a builder as I must like doing it so much. In actual fact I can’t wait to not have to do any more building/renovation work and have some time off :cry:

There is a sense of satisfaction in it all though!

Grabbed a minute this evening to level the doors and put the handles on. Worktops are due early August with oak upstands, so I just need to finalise the decoration on whatever evenings I can grab.

N.b. the unit above the single oven is an outrageous purchase. It was £400 on a perks website; RRP is £580. The thing is literally just a microwave. I can't express how outraged I am. Luckily for me, it came with a £150 mindful chef voucher so I can offset the cost to one of a Hotpoint integrated microwave (min spend is ~250 generally). I am just flabbergasted humans out there pay £580 for a basic microwave (albeit flat bed). I lost an hour over the weekend wiring a cooker outlet for it, thinking it needed hard wiring (google said so) and it draw as much power as a single (fingers crossed it was an oven). I got it out the box and it is literally a 3 pin microwave...........fuming.

I've booked late August to lift the "middle" floor, insulate, and relay 22mm chipboard. I'll be doing the living in parallel. That means the house is then almost there for winter..........

Really nice job & I just wished I could get on with mine due to the poor weather

Our old Matsui dishwasher appears to have packed in. Tripped out the electrics this morning and was producing a burning smell. It would appear to be the pump motor having failed. I strongly suspect it is not worth trying to fix and I'm better off buying a new dishwasher. Any recommendations for a slimline integrated one? Definitely looking on the budget end of the spectrum..

How on earth did you even begin to do that yourself? Are you a builder? Did you do it in free time between your job? Do you have a build thread anywhere?

I’m generally quite handy at DIY and just use YouTube to learn what I don’t know. I also bought a building regs book to read through.

I’ve spent most of my spare time evenings and weekends when not working on this for the past 3 months.

I started a thread for my previous extension work but I’m too lazy to keep it updated :p

We had the brickwork shell built last year of the other extension over the existing garage and then I finished it off. I didn’t attempt that as I’m pretty afraid of heights. I found it hard enough doing the roof on this single story
