What "man jobs" have you done today?

Sorry but that is quite funny and precisely something I'd do. I had a similar issue with a triangle "point" on an under stairs cupboard, and I could chamfer the point to make it clear. So either mod the door or rip off and start again IMO...

I guess you could mitre the top arch bit, as a bit of a feature, and then fix the plaster. Someone skilled with an angle grinder....

It would be fiddly but you could remove the plaster on the interior top part of the arch between the buttresses and sand blast the whitewashed bricks as a "feature", leaving just the rest plastered.

Looks like the put on about 6 inches of plaster . I'm starting to see why most doors are rectangular. I think if you only multitool a bit it will look ****. I reckon if you mirror any removal on both side it will blend better, but what ^ he said might look OK.

Just cut and move the arch slightly higher if possible.

When I say I will multitool it out I mean I will break out the frame /arch and then get the plasterer back in to replaster it in the "stepped" way it previously was onto the bricks which means the clash will be avoided.

To be fair it was the plasterers suggestion to box out like this but I did do the frame for him to tie to. It's not significantly lower than the existing arch but the projection outwards causes the problems.

Sandblasting bricks sounds like more effort than its worth.

Give neither of us spotted it I will ask him to be gentle with the price but I'm sure a lot of people would say make him pay it!

I like Chris' idea of leaving the brick arch bare, I think that would look nice. You might not need to sand blast, could probably use some acid based spray to get the plaster and paint off.

Given the plaster is already FUBAR I'd just get a new bracket, cut around it with a multi tool and then bolt a noggin to the wall itself.
Exactly this, except so wouldn't call it a nogging because it's not stuck between two other pieces to strengthen them ;)

Depending on the thickness of the gap/plaster/board, I'd put some sturdy ply in the wall and plaster over. That way you're going into something regardless of how deep you go.

I did a design for someone with a door like this a few years back as they wanted to keep the arch shape at the top and their builders just suggested a slope raised arch which aren't a great look. I came up with something like this which they went with although a bit more faff to create but looks like it would fit the existing brickwork:

I like that, I'd step it out down the sides too.

Thanks looks good that my only concern is my plasterer is generally pretty good over wide areas but I find he tends a bit less bothered about smaller detailed areas and might be difficult to get a double arch working!

I'll see what he says..

I've not a plasterer but I've plastered some pretty odd shaped areas and yes its more effort, but I find the key is some complex areas need to be done in stages over two days to get a good finish especially where internal corner trowels can't be used.

Installed a UniFi G5 Bullet at the front of the garage. Ideally it should be higher but there's no other way to approach without first being captured by it.

I hate crimping and had to do 5! One from the switch in the loft to the switch in the garage, then another 2 for the camera run. PoE on the camera worked but there was no network connection, figured it would be the camera end as it's the most awkward one to do and it was.

In hindsight I should have mounted it further to the right but the guttering sweeps down and there would be much less room.
Looks like you could tilt the camera slightly to cover more of that side of the driveway…although maybe that’s the neighbouring one

Yeah it's the neighbours, with all the CCTV rules I checked with them first and they said it's fine and they were planning on putting their own up anyway, so extra protection for free. :)

Sitting here puffin and huffin and wife said if you are so bored go and tidy up your wardrobe - She said it's full of junk.
I thought what a good idea -When I finished I had a empty spray can and unopened pack of wallpaper paste.
So I think she was talking about her wardrobe with junk in. See men don't hoard stuff :)

I have been looking for a camera as I have just ripped out our old alarm system from the 90's!

Just the right price and fits the bill perfectly. Perfect combo with a nice bright security light.

Fitted two UniFi Floodlights in the garden. I think I’ll put a diffuser on both but will see how I get on. The cheap solar PIR light from Amazon has died so it's nice to have some light now that the days are getting shorter!

Hoovered the lawns to get rid of the carpet of leaves... Will no doubt have to do it again in a couple of weeks.

Not even my bloody trees :(
