What "man jobs" have you done today?

Did you have to move any trusses to make the space big enough ?
Our loft is the modern truss style and my office would already be in it if it weren't for those.

Also are you accessing with a ladder or proper stairs ?
in the end I didn't bother boarding ours out as the work was too much at this point in time, just had our first child though and I imagine should a 2nd one crop up in a few years time I would need to look at this more seriously.

Fortunately not, the house is a 3rd of an old converted barn which kept the original beams (should be visible in the pics) so we've built it around them.

We've used proper stairs, but the space saving ones as they have a small footprint, just fed them down to our bedroom and boxed it in at the bottom with a door with a latch, just high enough for the kids not to be able to reach :D ... Stairs are these: (staggered steps take some getting use to haha)

My partner said had these leading to her old bedroom years ago when she was still living with her mum, fell down them one day and now has a ridge on her bum.
be careful ;) :D

Boxed in the electric box in the kitchen and put a door on it, seems okay. I didn't think and only used one screw on each piece of t&g on the door and now if I open it and pull down the whole door sort of folds. I'm going to leave it.

Fitted a few new light switches. Polished black nickel, which looked good for about ten mins and are now covered in fingerprints... Should have gone for satin chrome or something.

I fitted polished black nickel and immediately regretted it. Not because I don't like them - I think they look great. But every time I do something like invest in all new light switches I immediately find something cooler after I've installed them - such as touch screen ones, glass ones, you get the picture!

Whipped out the old 1960s wooden back box in our bedroom light switch, replaced with a modern metal one to give enough space to fit a wireless Z-Wave dimmer.

Plastered a kitchen ceiling, first time plastering, never even done a wall before. Watched a few videos on how its done, got the tools, bag of plaster and off I went.
Well happy with how it turned out, like glass, very smooth :)
Just took my time and found it quite easy, back breaking work but saved myself about £100

Will now have a go at walls when I renovate my bathroom layer this year

hehe well i've been up and down them with lots of materials and tools and touch wood, nothing dodgy yet, and i'll be putting up a hand rail anyway.

Probably jinxed it now and plummet down head first tomorrow - thanks guys!

I have staggered steps, much more severe than you posted. They're absoultely fine, theyre just normal steps... drunk, eyes closed, carrying stuff... with one sole exception.

Dont try to turn around half way down and go back up.

Just drained, ran a flush, then added Sentinel X200 and X800 in the refill for a week long running cleanse. Next weekend I'll replace the CH pump and then refill with X100 inhibitor.

I thought about using the Deposit remover to help descale the boiler (the heat exchanger is copper not aluminium from what I can see on the web). However screw fix didn't have it in so I decided on a long slower descale and clean over the week.

Pipe from the cold water tap to the main pipe under the sink in the kitchen broke last night. after turning the water off had to wait till this morning to get to the local plumbers merchants to get a few parts.

The original fitting was a crappy bodge job which had been fitted 15 years+ ago by the previous owners, I've stripped the whole pipework out & fitted a flexi pipe from the copper pipe to the cold water tap so it shouldn't have a problem again.
You wouldn't belive the amount of water what can come out of a small 1/2 inch pipe in a couple of mins !! :D

Next job is to replace a floor tile in the bathroom which has cracked & the grouting around it has also broken up.

I have put up a coat hook, put up a key hook, almost drilled through a buried mains cable trying to put a magnetic knife block up, drilled the holes ready to put my sons tonight light and rail storage up in his room, put the first coat of paint up in his room and our bathroom.

Now I'm having a cider:)

Made 2x floating shelves out of solid oak, chased a 1mm T+E into kitchen walls and behind cupboards (before tiler arrives) from an existing JB serving cabinet lights, and fitted 3x matching LED lights under bottom shelf.
