What "man jobs" have you done today?

Blinds are looking very smart @{SAS}TB, I presume they are on a remote control or do you need to get the ladders out?!

Thanks :) - it's a combination of ladder, full climbing gear or winched in by rescue helicopter...

:P

We looked at battery (and solar) but ended up going with manual. We already need to use a telescopic pole to open / close the windows.

I got another with the correct sized "knob" (matron!) on the back which slots into the bottom rail to close them.

Some pressure on the same rail retracts them back up into the cassette

Started to really deep organise the workshop. I bought a chest freeze which needs to go in there, and obvs the summer house has made a home for a lot of the things I've been keeping.

Also scored a solid teak (weighs about 120kg) sideboard/TV unit. The kind guy let me have it for free and even followed me home to give me a lift at the other end! Legendary.

^ a bit of a mess atm. I'm going to make cabinet to sit the Deco unit on, so I can get rid of that side table thing.

^ temp desk whilst I wait for my FlexiSpot 180x80 to arrive :eek::cool:

Workshop in the best order it has been in since I moved in, believe it or not - lol.

^ I need to build a lumber cart and a pizza-oven cart. That liberates that far end and then I can finally get the gym setup going.

^ fatigue was really setting in towards the end.

@dlockers you sir are a machine! Do you ever stop doing stuff? Can’t believe just how much work you manage to get through…very impressive!
I wish, still nowhere near enough progress/pace. Still need to finish the dining room, bathroom, kids bedroom etc....... lol!"

Good work.

That's a lot of tissue, just saying :p
Only savages buy TP and kitchen roll from supermarket. It is crazy cheap on subscribe and save.

I source it in my local B&M, its cheaper, a lot cheaper. The B&M edition of Regina Blitz is about 2/3 the price and you also don't end up with a garage full of it. Bog roll is about the same, a lot cheaper and its 3 ply so no need to triple up like on a 2 ply Andrex - double up is more than sufficient with a 3 ply ;).

That said I think the bog roll we have at the minute is Tesco 3 ply, they were selling off a 4 pack for under £1 a piece and was well under half the price of branded. They had a couple of pallets so I walked out with as much as I could carry :p. I pretty much take the view that I'm literally wiping my arse, as long as its not tracing paper, its probably fine and it really doesn't need an expensive marketing campaign with a fluffy dog to sell it to me. I don't to be throwing good money down the toilet!

Let's talk real numbers (as I am always keen to save cost :D).

I am at £0.003p per sheet of Regina, and 0.37p per roll of Andrex.

Sounds like you have a garage full of it.

Cheaper ones are dusty af

The stuff I'm buying is about 27p/roll for bog roll and £1/roll for kitchen, not sure how you can get down to £0.003/sheet though as they are £1.64 a roll on subscribe and save which is more like £0.0078/sheet. You'd need to be at well under £1/roll for that.

Agreed, it can be dusty but so is Regina, Plenty and its knock off's are better in that regard. I've got blue roll in the man cave, now that stuff is dusty.

That was a one off to save what 3-4p a roll, I think I only bought 32 rolls most of which fitted into the under sink cupboard in the toilet where I keep the loo roll.

This thread has taken a strange turn today - my bad :p .

Split a load of logs yesterday and today, and now the woodshed is bulging at the seams. I'm feeling a bit achy though!
From chainsawing the tree falls, wheelbarrowing back the logs, chainsawing them to sensible lengths, and then splitting them, its quite a mission to stock the woodshed.
(tried to upload some photos but i can't get imgbb to work properly so have given up)

£13.59 on S&S for 8 rolls with 560 sheets

Finished painting in the kitchen, sanded & repainted the batten above the windows, in preparation for installing the new blinds, washed the windows (2 hours of careful scrubbing and scraping all the plaster that had been flicked over them), then screwed the brackets for the blinds and fitted the finishing trim.

We now have privacy once again...

Man Jobs this weekend:

1. Light lawn renovation - Mainly to dethatch from 3 years of not doing anything, but also as the ground is rock hard, I'm not sure if that is just generally dried out from the relatively dry summer we've had in this part of the UK or because we are in a clay soil area (but we had a good few tons of top soil shipped in prior to turfing 3 years ago), but since we got a full garden wheelie bin chokka with thatch, that needed doing anyway, that was a -5mm dethatch, so only 'light'.. I've overseeded and put a light sprinkling of top dressing on and I'll see how it goes, I did it now due to having at least 1 week of about the right level of expected rain which we'll then manually top up with the sprinkler as/when needed.. I'm hoping by then I can recheck the ground as its too hard to aerate at the moment, if it still too hard after 4 weeks of rain/watering then I'll need to get someone in to assess things, it might need cultivating, new top soil and re-seeding, or maybe just a proper mechanical hollow tine aerator that can deal with the thick ground and get that done once a year to slowly improve the soil..

2. Fitted a second Outdoor WiFi Access Point to get over a dead spot we have caused by a recentish single storey rear extension which means the courtyard area is blocked. Rather than just move the existing AP and risk a dead spot somewhere else, I though one AP on either end of the house (around 10M apart) should do the job.. Luckily that although it was on the 'new' end of the house (doubel storey side extension) so would have to go through a new loft, I'd already fitted cable trays for the CAT6 cable I put in at first fix and already had a hole between the lofts (I have a network switch in the old loft), and as I went slightly against building control recommendation and fitted a (double insulated) loft hatch with ladder, access was a breeze.. it only took 30 mins, mainly getting the ladders out, finding my fish wire reel and drilling a hole in the soffit and attaching the bracket to the wall..

Since the dead spot was where all my IoT stuff was, that's all peachy now, so ready for some WLED controller for some more outdoor lights!

We moved into our house last month, from South Africa. One of the radiator thermostat valves / cap was broken in the main room. I took one look at it and thought “No idea how these things work here” And got the wife to let the letting agency know to get them to fix it. The valve had completely snapped off, so you could not adjust the temp or turn off the flow of water to it.

A couple weeks later, I took another look as I was curious and realized it just screws off / on.

Ordered a new one off Amazon and had it replaced in a few mins. Silly me for not looking properly earlier lol
