What "man jobs" have you done today?

Will post pics later, but just been informed our flooring chap has finished his current job a day early and can start tomorrow if we're ready...

...we're not, so on top of getting uniform, school kit & packed lunches sorted for 3 monsters, we've got a lounge/kitchen/diner to empty & lift the old flooring, ready for 9am tomorrow.

I've already ordered extra Tramadol, JAK inhibitors (and a large tube of KY - coz this is going to absolutely bugger me).

Cleaned the hob extractor filter .....

Completely emptied the loft of the 90% crap and other stuff that was put up there when we moved in. That took longer than I thought it would!

However that's just the start - need to remove all the flooring and bin it as it was so poorly installed by the previous owners (nailed directly to the joists, compressed insulation, warped boards etc). First I think I'll rearrange the light fittings I installed a while back as the spread of light isn't ideal at the far end. Then that damn extractor fan and it's venting needs rerouting at some point too.

Not used them myself but Bahco are a pretty good make although you could save a few quid with the Rothenberger twin pack. I'm sure pipe cutters are much the same. Just remember to measure ten times and cut once!

I need to cut some copper that was first fixed out of the bathroom wall over the weekend to plumb in a rad. I need to replace my cutter and I can't screw this up, so going to buy one that is half decent. Is this OK or is there something substantially better?
If you read the AI review summary it's rather mixed, "some customers have reported that the wheels in both cutters have basically disintegrated. They also have issues with the wheel sticking".

There's a £10 cheaper set by Hautmec that gets a 4.7 review rating vs the 4.5 for the Bahco, and the AI review summary seems better (or at least does not mention faults). Don't blame me if they're rubbish though.

I swear this is the most valuable thing you can do to a house (for the cost/return) - so much wasted space in attics!

Any way to route the extractor to the roof from the 1st 90 Deg elbow you have, either straight up or a 45 deg elbow up the way to the roof and install a vent tile? Would make it less awkward than running along the floor as it is now.

That would have been the ideal solution (aside from getting rid of the condensate which I'll bring up shortly) but I don't do roofs nor do I trust roofers!

Despite insulating the fan's solid pipe work condensation still formed inside the ducting and then leaked out the fan as it's not a sealed unit. So I kept getting this, more so in the winter with the loft being colder:

This is caused by not just the moisture from the shower but also the general moisture in the air of the house from people, pets and cooking etc. As the fan's not running 99% of the time it just condenses in the ducting and fan.

As I'm redoing the flooring I'll reposition the fan and fit a condensate trap to it as well as making sure as much of the ducting is insulated.

It would have been cleaner and simpler to go through the roof as previously mentioned.....

Maybe I need to restore my faith in roofers!
