What "man jobs" have you done today?

I left it 10 days because that's what the instructions said in the paint for it to reach hardness. The more you know eh! Next time I'll leave it longer
In realty, they’ll have marked it regardless. It’s a properly physical job and to do it properly they’ll be pushing carpet stretchers up against the skirting.

The benefit of pre-painting is you can get a full coat of paint right down to the bottom of the skirting. The downside is you’ll need to touch in.

One of the window latches has jammed on one of the kitchen windows meaning I cannot lock it. I cannot for the life of me find what this type of handle is called. It's fairly old as are the windows. UPVC double glazed but with a smaller than air gap than contemporary windows. When turned it moves a plate into place which sits in a grove to lock the window, I think via some sort of cam. It acts a bit like a cockspur handle but the cam mechanism is internal to the window frame. Any ideas so I can try and replace?

after a long time with my leg up having snapped my Achilles tendon I am finally on the mend and want to get some of my summer projects moving

Firstly I made a couple of mft tops for easier jigging cuts to make a dining room table

2 different offsets one at the standard 96mm and one at 100mm to make it easier for sizing things but still have compatibility with standard inserts and tooling

Surgically ground the head off a rounded screw in some secondary glazing to allow me to remove the frame, in advance of stripping the window and sill back tomorrow.

This happened to me earlier in the year.
Watched loads of youtubes and thought sod this and called someone in. They certainly knew what they were doing as they had it unlocked in a few minutes - New lock and tests and I was £70 lighter -Money well spent though as I had no idea of what to do.
If you get someone in ask for the lock back - match it on ebay then buy a few new ones then change those that have a lot of wiggle on the handle.
Ps - my windows are 14 yrs old.

Nice one. I'm suspecting the glazing frame needs disassembling to access the lock. So I'm leaning towards paying a man to sort it. Long term, we'll replace them with modern double glazing but not essential right now. Fortunately, it opens and closes and we have a plastic latch to keep it in place, so it can probably wait a while.

The seal on one of our external doors has perished. No longer holds its shape and/or has split. Anyone know what I need to search for to find a replacement? Do they have a generic name?

The ribbed section at the top slots into a groove in the frame.

Darn rat has been in the summer house. Good chance for a sort out, most of it in there is junk and it means I can get rid of a bit at a time over the winter. Will probably get a skip next year. The whole area is only a few years away from collapsing and needing redoing anyway, so probably a good chance to get rid of most stuff down there.

Ripped out the workbench - shame, but it was pretty ropey. Very reflective of the old school lol.

Outsourced the dangerous bit to the 4yo. Hopefully she doesn't touch the 32amp wagos hanging above her head.

I thought I'd bought 14sqm but my maths was wrong anyway, so 12sqm is fine and I have a bunch of offcuts to make use of.

I was going to rip the MDF down but it probably isn't causing any harm. I'll have to descrew and sand it but I guess folk put mirrors here or something?

Also bought a nice little super cheap trolley for the pizza oven which was used for the first time in a year earlier

Collecting the power rack tomorrow (y).

Fitted a lino floor covering into the kitchen.

Kitchen isn't in good condition and needs replacing when I can afford it. But floor had black tiles down which were cold and dark, so we decided to put a sheet of lino over the top just temporarily until we're ready to do the full kitchen refurb.

Sheet was 5x2m I needed 4.6x1.3.

Bit fiddly cutting it round the units and walls. Not perfect cuts unfortunately but will be putting a bead of silicon round which will make it neat.
