What "man jobs" have you done today?

Could you share the list please? There must be something I'm not doing

Very very basic, but it will grow as I remember things (and get the level of detail right)
The idea is to chip away at it, not leave until it needs done, in little bits of time I get spare etc

Well I cleaned the whole house. Normally it's split activity by the Mrs is busy doing stuff for an art & craft fair.

I still need todo a load of things outside to winterise the pond etc but for now at least inside is clean and pleasant :)

That kind of pipe insulation probably doesn’t fit properly but something is better than nothing. Pipe wrap is probably better to go over fittings like that.

I assume it will all under 300mm+ of rock wool anyway so heat loss will be minimal?

It all looks pretty neat and tidy, so by that alone, I'd think he knew what he was doing!

I assume the charred area smack bang in the middle of the first photo is damage from some problem in the past, and has now been addressed? If not, check it out, before you regret it!

Is it lazy plumbing to simply not insulate pipes at any point it meets a press fit fitting, or standard process? It's what our plumber has seemingly done throughout!

I wouldn't be happy with the gaps. I am not plumber but have installed all new pipe work in two of my homes and I would use pipe wrap as already mentioned to fill the gaps. I would not want the press fittings to suffer freezing given their rubber seals even if the ice doesn't blow the fitting. Lagging over the top would help but I've felt cold air creep along under it by pipes.

I don't get the use of copper press fit or copper push fit, given if you're not soldering then why not use plastic. I only use copper with end fed soldered fittings which make pipe lagging easier and can be easily desoldered for changes unlike press fit which need to be carefully split.

That's where the recent plumber or a previous one soldered that pipe joint. There was room for a protective mat or as I use in tight spaces a thin metal plate, but the plumber obviously did neither.

Plastic has a much smaller inner diameter than copper due to all the plastic inserts needed. The difference is enough to make a big difference to potential flow rates on heating circuits. They also don’t have the bulk of plastic which you’ll never get suitable pipe insulation to fit over.

Those copper press fit fittings are a permanent connection, they are clamped onto the pipes with a hydrologic press.

Plumbers are moving over to them for a few reasons, they don’t leak, they are far faster to install, they are easier to install and they are far safer because no hot works are required.

That's one of the reasons I don't fit plastic pipe.

My house now has MDPE to 28mm copper for cold supply. For CH there is 28mm copper primaries from boiler splitting to a zone for each floor and only then down to two 22mm legs for front and rear of each floor. HW/CW is dealt with similarly and everything has full bore valves and fittings for maximum flow.

I still prefer end fed solder for copper as all those rubber seals worry me.

Raked loads of leaves in the garden, was about to put it in the brown bin and remembered, we have had our last collection. Put it in a plastic box for a tip run.

This evenings plan is browsing the spec me a CCTV thread. Eufy Solocam S220 is down to £50, our current neolink camera (which to be fair was free years ago) has shutdown support. Still records to SD but its nice being able to check the house (app was always quicker than my blink doorbell for a view plus it did not complain when viewing for a bit of time, sometimes dont hear the doorbell if on a work call so would put liveview on while on a call)

Finished off the poo pipe trimming and manthorpe vented tile fitting

what a job! assume not thinking of replacing just yet?
Cheers! Was fun trying to work out the pieces that had migrated quite far.

It will probably be a while before I either drum up the confidence to try and block pave it myself or save up for somebody to do it. I also need to add a trench drain as water is running off the drive up against my house and through the car port if it's heavy.

Touched up the skirting boards in my office. I cut the bottom off them with a multi tool to fit the new flooring underneath. Also as I had to remove one to get the last row in, that needed some filler and paint.
