What "man jobs" have you done today?

I have made a free standing six rack set of shelves for the pantry from 44mm square wood battens and 18mm MDF. Used a router to cut a set of 10mm rebates and tapped the MDF in and used a screw from outside to secure in place then painted in PVA to provide a little moisture resistance.

I was really happy with the outcome the shelves had a nice tight fit and I cut the rebates so I have a range of shelf heights to suit different requirements. Just got to put a fresh lick of paint in pantry and then I can move them in and put a securing clip to the wall.

That's my favourite method for making stuff, really solid and pro looking but quick and simple too.

Need to get a 1/2" router some day, will open up a few more possibilities..

Edit - Would be interested in seeing a pic of your shelves actually, got some to make myself.

Started to trim the hedges but the battery died halfway through. Going to finish this tomorrow. Also made a start on ripping out loads of weeds on the path that had died from the weed killer I put down.

Painted two walls in the nursery over lunch, will finish the job later finally starting to look like a room again after some pretty major renovations!

Finally took the nasty old shed down today! God knows how old it is, I'd say 20-30 years though easily. It was rotten.

How it looked earlier on today.

Dismantled with nothing but my right foot and some boots on :D

Posts under the base, well, there was virtually nothing left of them.

Garden looks so much bigger now though, looks great. The old shed was falling to bits and just looked nasty. It's being replaced with a smaller shed down the side of the house eventually, it only really needs to hold a bicycle and a few gardening bits so doesn't need to be massive.

Just need to decide what to do with the space now, will probably get paved or decked, as it gets the sun there most of the day.

Was good fun, and lovely weather too.

2 B&Q pine shelf kits

- Decided to glue the brackets to the shelf to 1) hold it in place and 2) make it easier to mark the wall to drill so it would be straight rather than measure

- Picked up shelf, brackets fall off, glue didn't hold. Guess PVA wasn't strong enough

- Reglued brackets with non brand No Nails

- Day is getting on, want to get drilling asap as to not annoy neighbours. (6 brackets, 18 holes to drill)

- Brackets still not dried but cannot wait any longer

- Single handedly try to hold 4ft shelf against wall and balance spirit level on top

- Reach for pencil to mark wall

- Can't find pencil..

- Grab a pen instead

- Sodding bracket falls off...

- No Nails stain on bed cover I am currently standing on

- Mark remaining bracket holes

- Realise its a solid wall not plasterboard....how I hate this wall

- Drill exactly where marked

- Half the holes not deep enough no knacker the plugs

- Finally finish drilling!

- Attach brackets and shelf to wall

- Half the damn holes don't match up.... HOW?!

- One side not even resting on bracket

- Try to glue it down

- Try to screw it down

- Too closr to ceiling for screwdriver...

- Resort to nailing it...Success!

- Some screws go directly into wall, missing the plug completely

- Cordless drill not strong enough to do job

- Resort to screwdriver

- Get blister on palm

- Another bracket falls off mid way...

- Finally get shelf up!

- ....And now for the second one!!

- Repeat above steps

- Line up to existing shelf

- Both shelves wonky

- Don't line up

- Tired and ****ed off

How I hate DIY :p

Today's manly duty was to offer help fix to the gfs shed roof on Saturday.

The manliest part will when I either renege or procrastinate for the entire weekend.

In two days my brother and I put together a new patio:

I like the look of that. i think i'd have gone for the full width of the house though.

Ordered my Tiger Log Cabin today

Are you going to make a project log (cabin)? What's the planned use? Would love on of these as a mancave, but i have no room in my garden for anything bigger than a 8x10 shed :(
