What "man jobs" have you done today?

Today I chopped a couple of trees down and took about 30 ft off of the top of another tree with the help from some friends, drastic surgery but its for the best, we need to reclaim some of the massively overgrown garden. The problem with this tree was that it was left to get out of control and just grew a bit too big.

Next up is to take a 3rd off the top of the conifers and holly tree. That should be a laugh.

Over the weekend I made a start on the hedge trimming also. We have an electric trimmer but I opted for the good old shears. Wind was going to start blowing away the leaves so I will be finishing the job over this week.

Fixed leak under bath, looks like it's been seeping for ages, managed to save the floorboards. Fortunately we don't use that bathroom much. Whoever thought it was a good idea to place a tee under the toilet waste pipe where it's nigh on impossible to get at is a tool.

Tree surgeon. Job done. :)

Yea I have been tossing up what to do for a while, I have got a few quotes and they are all coming back in excess of 1k for the work for which I am no expert but that seemed a lot.

So far and 3 trees in it's only cost me £50 on BBQ food and 3 hours in the garden with a few mates. With the other trees I think I will hire a cherry picker for a day. Not sure yet but one thing I am sure of is that it won't cost me anywhere near 1k to do it myself.

Removed two bushes, got the watering system for hanging baskets and window boxes tested and working for the summer.

Taken 8 bags of grass cuttings + hedge clippings to the local 'dump' and disposed of them there.

Just going to grab a quick coffee, before I go out and cut the grass... again.

Then more watering of shrubs etc. this evening!

This lovely sunny weather is all very well, but the gardens could now do with some rain!

fitted and filled skirting board in the nursery and cut the front hedge was a busy evening so beer's well earned!

Filled in a load of cable chases for the new lights in the kids rooms. #

Laid some flat CAT 5E under the carpets ready for hooking up their new PC's.

That sounds like a good idea... can I ask where is the best place to get them from?

(Obviously the flat cables, not the carpets! ;) )

Got mine from here: Rhinocables

Various lengths. Works a treat, I just lifted the carpet up laid it out then put duct tape over it to keep it in place and protect it a little bit. Put the carpet back down and you can't even feel it, wouldn't know it was there. :)

my wife had a great day in the garden yesterday...so after work i:

fitted a new belt to the lawnmower
fixed the strimmer

next up is repairing the cable on the hedge trimmer.

I've been breaking down some pallets to make a table top for my grill to sit in. It's going to be a modified version of this. I've got a weekend of sanding ahead of me

Going to build a table for my router too when I get time.

Put 2 chrome curtain rails up, wasn't easy to get a decent fixing as the plaster in the room is old and crumbles at the sight of a drill, ended up fixing into the brick with longer screws/wall plugs than those supplied. Assembled new bed (delivered flat packed). Put new group head gasket in Gaggia coffee machine, it was previously leaking around portafilter and ruining shots, new gasket has sorted it. Put new PSU in PC (RMA return).

Did an hour or so decorating this evening. Will finish the wall off in the morning though. Quite happy with it although cutting the paper at the ceiling is a pain in the hoop!

Finished the wall now. Just got to get the radiator off to finish the other side of the room :)

Damp issue on a edwardian chimney breast. Hacked off plaster over entire wall, and applied salt neutraliser. Not bad for a lunchtime.

Need to get the rennovating plaster on at the weekend.

I have made a free standing six rack set of shelves for the pantry from 44mm square wood battens and 18mm MDF. Used a router to cut a set of 10mm rebates and tapped the MDF in and used a screw from outside to secure in place then painted in PVA to provide a little moisture resistance.

I was really happy with the outcome the shelves had a nice tight fit and I cut the rebates so I have a range of shelf heights to suit different requirements. Just got to put a fresh lick of paint in pantry and then I can move them in and put a securing clip to the wall.
