What "man jobs" have you done today?

So tackled my over grown garden over the last few days:

Excuse the poor picture on the left but it was taken from an old whatsapp.

Included:

Cutting everything back (5 green bins full of garden waste)
Digging out right hand flower bed (with the intention of turfing it to extend the grass area)
Put up a new fence on the right hand side
Cutting back and digging out the left hand flower bed (cant see in picture)
Covering bed with weed stopping material and wood-chip
Potting plants
Cutting and strumming grass and weeding where possible.

Still loads to do but its getting there.

Painted the nippers garden bench with some expensive outdoor furniture wood stain I had in the shed - took forever as the cheap wood just absorbed each stroke. Looks really expensive teak bench now so that'll keep the wife pleased for a bit. I think the stain was worth more than the bench!

Potted some more veg and strawberry plants - try and do tomato plants sometime this week as the weather seems to have turned and nights not quite so cool.

Yeah, first picture looks a bit of a wash out :D

Damn good progress!

Filled some of the patches in the lawn yesterday but that was about it..

haha yeah! It was taken on a rainy day too! My sister was house sitting when i was away and she sent me that saying - "You need to sort your garden out"

don't worry she got a reply saying "well you know where all the tools are!"

Suffice to say i came back and had to do it myself! :D

Not today but over the bank holiday weekend with the father-in-law and a couple of mates we replaced 27m of garden "fence".. I say it like that as there wasn't much left after the neighbours garden had grown through it and the last owners had bodged repairs with anything from cupboard doors to laminate flooring..

9ft posts dug 10ft apart and set in to 2ft of postcrete which was levelled off so that water can't pool around the bottom and rot them. Built from scratch with arris rails and close board panels as we didn't want to put in a post every 6ft for use with pre-made panels. Pretty happy with the results!

Thanks guys, if you need advice on putting up a fence I could probably help! As for garden maintenance.. It's pretty much 30m x 10.5m in total, the first half up to the brown grass is reasonably level but the brown bit is full of holes and lumps.

We thought it was great when we first moved in but quickly decided that it's too much to maintain after spending the best part of 6 weekends straight just getting it to a manageable state and now every other Sunday is spent keeping it that way! Intention is to split it in to 3 sections;

Decking from the house, Grass and low maintenance plants & shrubs in the middle and a patio, BBQ, firepit and maybe some more decking with a tree growing through it towards the back where its away form the shade of the house in summer. Going to be a big project so will start documenting it and may do a garden project on here once it gets under way properly!

Well the missus has her heart set on a small herb garden and possibly a veg patch as well.. I've been spending a lot of time drawing circles on a bit of paper trying to come up with a design I like which is also convenient. Don't want to walk half way up the garden for herbs when cooking etc.. Have also decided I would like a hot tub out there so plans have been ripped up and restarted several times now!

Wired in 6 downlighters in the bathroom, all new wiring, had to take floors in my loft conversion. Removed most of the old bathroom and sealed off pipework. Need to board out the ceiling, board a wall then get the plasterer in before I can start on fitting the new suite, floor and tiling. Busy month coming up.

Mowed the lawn, weeded the back garden borders, trimmed the edges, cleaned the fish pond filter, weeded the front lawn and weeded the herb garden, soaked the hanging baskets, sharpened the lawnmower blade and now waiting until 6pm for a beer :)

Painted the stairs wall. 11ft ceilings downstairs and upstairs so was 'interesting'. 7m ladder almost fully extended halfway up the stairs balanced on a stair, and a stack of a4 paper.

Most exciting saturday I've had in ages lol.
