What RAM are you getting/bought for Ryzen

G.Skill Ripjaws V DDR4 RAM 16GB - 3200MHz (F4-3200C14D-16GVR)

I believe that these will be suitable, I will probably get CH6 mobo.

Dark T-Force 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4 PC4-24000C16 3000MHz Dual Channel Kit - Grey. Got it for £82.99 back on the 4th Feb in the sale, glad I did. Waiting for reviews for the 6 core Ryzen and a suitable mobo. Could be persuaded to the 1700 8c, maybe, not sure I need that much.

Single Sided 2 x 2 configuration on certain boards can go like to 3000+ mhz maybe even 3200. Dual sided or 4 x 2 configuration is not going over 2600mhz in almost all scenarios I tried. Its AMD not MB vendors who need to fix this then vendors can integrate the correct code for high memory into the Bios.

For me this should be working as it polishes the product and gains around 200mhz at around 4.0ghz of efficiency.......

Remember all XMP is Intel certification so relaxed timings may be needed on AM4 platform. I found this with several kits.

So I've got 4 x single sided 3000Mhz G.Skill, it seems like I'm not only going to get low speeds but also it might not even work at all?

If the problems with it are sorted and I buy it'd be 2x8GB 3200Mhz minimum, Corsair Vengeance LP White, or some of that LED stuff they make if it was extortionate.

I've got 32gig (2 x 16ghz Corsair 3200mhz sitting here doing nothing until Rzyen sorts out a few problems).

I also have 2x16GB Corsair (Vengeance). Haven't received the board and CPU yet, due today.

Would it not POST at all with the RAM?

No, I tried it a my mates build. It wouldn't post. His board and cpu are have gone back until AMD, board vendors etc sort everything out.

I'm really not sure what RAM to buy anymore, knowing that I want 32GB at the end and I do plan to overlock my 1700x.

I'm considering getting the gskill 16GB trident Z 3600/3800, I figure there's not much price difference, Ryzen scales really well with faster ram (http://www.legitreviews.com/ddr4-me...tform-best-memory-kit-amd-ryzen-cpus_192259/6 for example), and is rated for at least DDR-3600 ram, plus @AMDRyzen tweeted a few days ago "It’s #MemoryOverclockMonday so here’s the Ryzen 7 1700 running DDR4-3400. Enjoy!" As the BIOS matures and ram is certified to work with the motherboards any improvements will give better performance and in the meantime I can run at a slower speed with faster timings. Plus hopefully my AM4 motherboard and RAM will last a very long time without needing to be upgraded.

Can anyone explain what single vs dual rank memory is and how to tell which products come under each one? Because from what i've read, single works better on ryzen in getting to the rated xmp profiles.

Yes, two sticks of single ranked RAM will get the best results according to the AMD official specs:
Ryzen Memory Support
MHz
Dual-Channel/Dual-Rank/Four-DIMM
1866
Dual-Channel/Single-Rank/Four-DIMM
2133
Dual-Channel/Dual-Rank/Two-DIMM
2400
Dual-Channel/Single-Rank/Two-DIMM
2677

the ranking is the way the memory is addressed, usually but not always single ranked will have all the chips on the same side of the PCB and they can all be accessed simultaneously, dual ranked has two banks of memory that are accessed asynchronously. Some manufacturers have the ranking in their part numbers, 1Rx8 for single 2Rx8 for dual, others have it on the specs in their web pages. For G.Skill I had to do a bit of Googling, newer versions of CPUZ show the ranking in the memory stats, I found a review that had screenshots of CPUZ that showed the SPD tab with the "Ranks" as single.
